Recently Soulja Boy sat down with Rashad Bilal and Troy Millings of Earn Your Leisure for a new episode of their show "Assets Over Liabilities" on REVOLT TV. In the interview they discuss how he got started in music, being a pioneer (if you didn't know, he was 1st to do everything 😂), investing, some of his current business ventures, and more.
Like him or not, you have to respect Soulja Boy's work ethic and fearlessness when it comes to business and his SODMG brand. We've seen him transition from being a successful rap artist since the Myspace & ringtone era, to being a marketing genius, business mogul, investor, and tech enthusiasts.
The guys at Earn Your Leisure really asked some great questions that will help listeners dig into the thought process of DeAndre Cortez aka Soulja Boy. In many cases we see teenage artists that experience superstar success either fizzle out or get their career cut short by prison and in some instances, death. It was refreshing to hear how he stayed focus amidst all the mayhem.
Interview Highlights
@ 6:00 - After sharing how he was the 1st rap artist to get paid directly from YouTube...Big Draco explains how he was hugely successful with ringtones and how he used a fan hotline to produce another huge stream of income by attaching a phone number to one of his biggest hits, Kiss Me Thru The Phone.
@ 9:30 - Soulja shares how he felt getting his 1st million dollar check at the young age of only 17, what he did with the money,
@ 12:00 - Being that the show is title "Assets Over Liabilities", the hosts ask Soulja Boy what he considers an asset, versus a liability.
@ 15:40 - Rashad asks about the handheld device Soulja gave him to hold. From there he tells us about his new tech/gaming venture, TRDR Pocket. TRDR Pocket is a handheld gaming console powered by Android so it also gives you access to all your favorite apps like Netflix, Spotify, and Apple Music right out the box, all while still being able to play the top mobile titles like COD Mobile and NBA 2K Mobile.
@ 25:50 - How Big Draco got into Bitcoin and why he started using his show money to buy crypto.
@ 35:15 - In another genius marketing move, Soulja Boy explains why he titled his 1st major album, "SouljaBoyTellEm.com". Naming the album after a domain name that he purchased drove MASSIVE traffic and sales to the website on a global level.
@ 37:00 - Soulja Exotics cannabis venture with Grizzly Peak.
@ 43:30 - The Soap Shop...yes, Big Draco is in the soap business! And he scored big by getting in the industry right before the "pandemic" kicked off.
Being from Atlanta, I've always been a supporter of Soulja Boy's hustle. But now that I'm an entrepreneur and investor myself, I have an even deeper appreciation for his business mind and abilitiy to stay relevant. Speaking of staying relevant, let's not forget, he was the 1st rapper to go viral...
