Taking A Look At Soulja Boy's New NFT Project

in SODMGWorld3 years ago

The crypto market is full of celebrities and big brands trying to cash in on the NFT craze by selling their own digital collectibles. Most of these attempts are cash grabs where these individuals or entities are just trying to strike while the iron is hot and extract some value from their fan base.

But you do have instances where some of these big players are actually looking to provide value to their community and help to bridge the gap for the average consumer. For example, we recently (Jan '22) seen Nas drop an NFT collection with Royal.io that grants its owners a portion of the streaming royalty rights for 2 songs from his new project, "Rare" and "Ultra Black".

Me being someone who has close ties to the music industry, I'm always looking at the innovative ways musicians are using blockchain tech to engage with their fan base and add utility.

After looking into some other hip-hop artist's NFT projects, I noticed that Big Draco himself released a generative project back on December 1st. To my knowledge this is Soulja Boy's 1st official generative NFT release.

The collection comes in 5 different rarities:

Limited (2000x) - Lil Draco
Exclusive (500x) - Young Draco
Rare (250x) - Big Draco
Super Rare (25x) - Boss Draco
Gold (1x) - Alien Draco

Each rarity is considered a lifestyle pass that comes with its own unique utility and perks. Now looking at it from the perspective of a fan and a collector, I can really appreciate the collection being affordable (starting at 0.1 ETH) and having a lot of perks for the fans.

I looked through the OpenSea account and the only 2 currently available for purchase are the "Limited" Lil Draco (0.1 ETH) and the "Exclusive" Young Draco (0.15 ETH). Could be they want to test the demand and/or have a trial period to test the systems and make sure all holders are getting their perks. When you promise a lot pre-release, it creates some added pressure to keep the consumers happy. Hopefully the team can deliver.

As of now, there are only 20 owners of the 2 available rarities according to OpenSea. Those items are on sale until March 2nd so it could be plans to ramp up the marketing then...only time will tell. I'll be looking to purchase one for sure if the mint number stays down heading into March. On OS, there are currently only 75 total "Limited" and 25 total (Exclusive), even though the pre-release numbers were much higher...and I like low mints.

Its impressive to see Soulja Boy still with his foot on the gas in the crypto space. Let us not forget, he was probably the first mainstream artist to make a song about Bitcoin, back in 2018. Someone correct me if I'm wrong lol...if not thats another notch on the "1st" belt for Big Drako.
