I found an old post and it was so much fun to re-read that I thought I'd share it! Let's do it!
...
Wooo! 10th of 10 different parkruns.
Since my 1st at Varsity Lakes (Gold Coast) I've been back in Sydney hitting up my local region big time. Here are my awards & musings after visiting 10 very different runs:
Prettiest course award = A tie between Dolls Point for the water views & St Peters for the tree views.
Best all-round course = Kamay (most welcoming RD, most encouraging culture; everyone stood at finish line clapping people as they finished & can jump in the ocean straight afterwards because beach is right there!)
I took my pilates teaching buddy Chris to Kamay. It was hot, hot, hot that day and we jumped in the ocean straight after!
Biggest shock = Seeing the sheer number of runners at St Peters this morning (444)
I introduced my mate, Dhannel to parkrun. I think it was a shock to turn up to his St Peters parkrun and suddenly be surrounded by hundreds and hundreds of people! We struggled to find each other in the crowd!
Coolest thing I've seen yet = A tie between seeing blind runners run with their buddies at Willoughby and a man in a wheelchair cross the line at Kamay.
Most gratitude for = Those who volunteer consistently, with a smile on their face. You're helping me see how to do it when I schedule in my first vollie role.
Number of friends introduced to parkrun to date = 2 (that have attended so far)
Location most likely to have me consider doing a repeat = Kamay
New friends made at parkruns (or run groups I've joined because I found out about them at a parkrun) to date = 4
Next event = Cronulla
Different parkrun events goal = Finish all parkruns in the Sydney region by Easter weekend (can do as long as not too many new parkruns launch!)
Time goal = Make my fastest parkrun time drop from 25:37 to 24:59
'Weird things long-distance runners do' goal = Do a super long run from sunrise TO a parkrun and then 'cool down' with another brand new parkrun
For reference, my first ten different parkruns in order were:
- Varsity Lakes
- Cooks River (in theory my local)
- Panania
- Willoughby
- Dolls Point
- Rhodes (Xmas Day)
- Kamay
- Curl Curl (New Year's Day Double)
- Parramatta (New Year's Day Double)
- St Peters
At Panania parkrun, with Ann (left) and Rachel, Event Director (right) and me in the middle.
Thanks 😎Wow! Your post is invigorating! The enthusiasm is palpable. I’m motivated to do a run with the kids today . Actually @thebombkids have a 1000 meter race on Sunday so good to find this inspiration!
Oh, awesome! I'm glad it lit you up =) @new.things mentioned your travels and your kids being here on Hive. That's awesome! Thanks for stopping by to say hi! !PIZZA
