Fitness at forty

**A bit of history **

At 16 years of age I was an elite level athlete on the Olympic train on squad for Judo in the 2000 Olympics. I severely damaged my shoulder in the national titles the prior year and the injury ended up taking me out of the sport entirely. From there life got in the way some. A few years back at about 35 I started dabbling in some Brazilian jujitsu and mma generally got into a sport called pankration and broke my rib and punctured my lung during the national selection tournaments. I have always had more trouble gaining weight as opposed to the many people who have trouble keeping it off but as a male that's not really always an enviable position.

So what now
My wife recently signed up to a gym and to give her a bit of moral support I decided to go along wow did the first week hit me. I hit forty around midway through this year and a workout after a big break from doing anything was a bit of a wake up call. In saying that I don't do things in halves so as well as going to the gym with the wife I also signed back up to brizalian jujitsu.

My typical workout week

Monday- bjj classes followed by 3 - 4 5min rounds of grappling

Tuesday - bodyweight based training circuits at the gym

Wednesday - the same as Monday

Thursday - Gym strength and conditioning

Friday - Rest

Saturday - HIIT gym

Sunday - Rest

Today

Three weeks since I started my wife convinced me to go to a 1.5hour boot camp training session. After running 3kms doing over 100 burpees and numerous other fun things in 30 degree heat I didn't expect to be able to move for the rest of the day. I have to say I actually pulled up far better then expected.
