Saturday run - 14km (Parkrun No. 11)

Description from Strava: Thoroughly enjoyed my parkrun up at Yarborough last Saturday. It is cancelled this week though, so to get my Parkrun fix, I've headed back to my 'local' one at Boultham Park

It was forecast to rain all day, but it appears that has changed when I stepped out of the door this morning. Instead we had gloomy and misty conditions, and with super high humidity everything just looked (and felt) rather damp.

Strangely enough, despite the cool and damp looking conditions, it was surprisingly warm out there (...well thats the humidity I guess...) and I made my first mistake of the day by not dressing appropriatly for the run. I had picked out a long sleeve running top instead of the usual t-shirt.

After just 5 minutes, I'd already started overheating, and the general 'hot and bothered' feeling last for the entirety of the run.... it wasn't pleasant!

My second mistake of the day was choosing to set off on the run too late, Parkrun starts at 9:00am, and as I have to run to get there, I don't want to arrive too early as I'll start cooling down, before it starts. I also don't want to be late

and I live approx 4km away from where it is held. I reasoned that 'should' take 24 mins (an easy 6min/km pace multiplied by 4).

I set off at 8:30, and then halfway down the road disaster struck, and I bumped into a friend waiting for the bus. There was just a couple of minutes of small talk before I made my excuses and carried on my way... but I'd already lost time!

I carried on running down towards Boultham Park while keeping an ey on the time.

The whole idea of of the 4km run to the start, was so that it form part of the warm up, and I ended having to work harder than I wanted. I literally arrived at 8:59 to this:

...the crowd had listened to the welcome message etc, and had already started linning up to begin the run.

I slotted in at the back just in time to hear "3, 2, 1, Go!" and we were off!

note to self - leave a little earlier next time!

My run last week resulted in a parkrun PB of 25 minutes and 19 seconds. I wanted to get close to that again. It would mean averaging close to 5 min/km... and that was tough to begin with as I was behind so many other people. Unlike the course at Yarborough, Boultham Park is narrow and cramped, and not easy to get past other runners and walkers.

It is a 3 lapped route, and by the 3rd lap I finally had a little space to pick up the pace, and I managed a reasonably strong finish to take 90th place

After a couple of minutes to catch my breath, I slowly started to continue the run back into town.

The plan today was to incorporate the parkrun into another long rung, just like last weekend... but I gotta be honest, I just wasn't feeling it. The warm, humid, muggy, clammy conditions were rubbish, I was hot and bothered, and I suspect that the hasty run first this morning to get to parkrun had overdone it.

Instead of the planned loop around Lincoln, I simply decided to run the 4km back home to get a total of 14km in total.

This will mean I will need to head back out tomorrow to complete my target weekly mileage of 60km (well, at least 60km...), and I've already got a nice and easy 16km route planned for that one

After arriving home, I received the email notification advising of my results. I finished 90th out of 431 parkrunners, with a time of 25:25.

Considering the awkward start today, I'm happy with that :-)

Next week, I will probably head up to Yarborough again. It is the weekend that my partner will be heading back to University (and I'll helping her to pack/unpack, so that run is not set in stone yet, so we shall see on that.

Now it is time for me to potter about and do some chores, and then I'll be heading out early for the run tomorrow so I can complete the training for the week. It promises to be a wet one tomorrow, so I should probably try digging out my waterproof jacket!

Well done on getting there and doing a decent run. It was humid here too. It's only about 2km to my local parkrun, so enough to warm up. It does amaze me how big some of these events are. The local ones are fairly small really, but then there's not a big town nearby.

Its been humid and muggy for the last 3 days, really unpleasant... just had a thunderstorm here so hopefully that has cleared the air a little.

Vice versa, it surprises me how small some of these events are, I watch some vids on youtube of events with just 40-50 runners!

It’s like Boultham park is the general running park for everyone

3 laps with over 400 people I hope the path is nice and wide, there must be a lot of passing. We only have one 3 lap course on the north side of town, I have to work really hard not to get lapped by the first finisher !LOL. I missed the start totally once. I was needed for a last minute marshal spot, but he showed up late, I ran back to the start line then had to try and chase the tail walker, All good fun but I was exhausted afterwards.

ahem, the path certainly isn't nice and wide! need to be careful of footing in places... hopefully next time I can be more organised and better positioned to start closer to the front.
