Description from Strava:
Each Christmas the weather is different. Sometimes its cold, sometimes its mild. Sometimes we have snow, but mostly we just get rain.

This year we seem to have been given fog. And not just the early morning mist that often appears briefly in Autumn and Winter, which is then burnt off by the rising sun.

No.

This time we seem to have proper thick fog. It appeared late in the afternoon on Christmas day, and has persisted throughout Boxing Day, and also the following day. Today (the 28th) we still have thick, swirling fog, with no hint of even the lightest of breezes to help blow it away. Its properly damp and miserable, and I'm getting a little bored of it to be honest.

We did try to go out for a walk today:

And ad the picture shows, all we could see was damp. cold, gloomy fog.

My partner had wanted to test out a new lens that she had borrowed from uni over the xmas period, and I just wanted to get some fresh air, after being cooped inside for 3 days. My dad came round on xmas day, we visited my partners parents for boxing day, and on the 27th I was back in the office for work.

Today was a chance to actually spend some time outside. The walk itself was pleasant enough, it just would have been nice if the sun had made an appearance!

When we arrived back home, and had managed to get warmed up (it was near freezing out there), I then had a bit of time to tidy up the house. We've been busy over the past few days, so it was high time we caught up on some chores, getting the kitchen tidied up again, and also catching up on the ironing.

At 4pm, I looked out of the window, and could still see the fog lingering around. Out of nowhere I was struck with a sudden urge to go for a run.

My training has almost disapeared in the last 3 weeks, and while I've to keep active with regular walks, my last run was nearly 3 weeks ago on the 9th December

Its the longest i've been without any running since my injury hit summer, last year. I know that the longer the gap gets, the harder it will be to get back into a regular routine... but unfortunately knowing this doesn't help me get back into it. It is not something I can force, instead I have to wait until it feels right.

Well, today it actually felt right... so acted quickly before I could think of an excuse, and headed outside.

The run was as good as can be expected considering the lack of any training in the past 3 weeks, but I got it done, which was the important thing.

It was disappointing to notice that with 3 weeks of rest, my hip STILL hurts, which means that whatever the issue is, rest is not the answer. I do have another physio session in 4 days, and the therapist will try to work her magic again. If not, then I might need to consider what over options there are, as the injury is becoming boring to be honest!

Anyway, thats a post for another time. For now, I can be happy I managed to get a run done, and as a reward I think I deserve some more xmas snacks. 'Tis the season and all that. There is a lurking problem with my increasing waistline, but thats a problem to be dealt with in another post too!

About the Athlete: Living in the UK, I am an intermittent Runner, but always striving for more consistency. When I'm not training I can be found photographing insects or listening to really loud angry music (which is the best type of music obviously!)

Nice photos! I love running in fog! In any case be patient pal and you will return back to your beloved long runnings!

Usually I like the fog, but after 3 days, it now becoming boring lol

I'm not very good at being patient... perhaps thats an idea for a New Years Resolution! 😄

Have you got any Resolutions for this coming year?

I usually try challenges. For example one year without alcohol, without coffee. One year with at least two workouts per week was for 2024. Unfortunately i couldn't achieve it.
For 2025 i will try something new, totally different! My wife complaining me about the flat that we live in. I should try to spend more time in ads about houses! It is the most boring thing for me. I prefer to get some kicks in my ass than that. But the nee year challenges are challenges and i should try!

Its good to have a challenge or 2 to keep you busy! I do try to pick a mixture of different ones.... this year I want to improve running, by running faster and further. But I also want to improve my job prospects, so one of my aims is to complete a course in accountancy, so I can aim for a better job

Gotta try to keep improving in everything I do :-)

Good luck in the house searching, hopefully you can find somewhere to keep your wife happy!

Wish you will have the results you want, both in running and accountancy in new year ! Also i wish you in 2025 keep pushing your limits to every aspect of your life, as i am sure you are inspiration for your family and friends! Happy 2025 Dan!
