Time for another mid-weekly update!
I should really post more often, but time is always the the limiting factor. So instead of almost daily updates, I'll just have to make do with 'twice-weekly' for now.
So lets get to it. First up I should start with the parkrun on Saturday, where I managed to run my furthest distance in flippin' ages, and it felt so good! I did take it easy on the following Sunday, but I can confirm that by Monday morning, all the tiredness had gone, and I was ready to start a new week of training.
More importantly, my hip felt pretty damn good, and no lasting effects from the weekends exertions.
For Monday, I was working from home as per usual, and of course means I get the opportunity to finish sharp at for 4pm in order to head out for the run.
I've been so bored of easy and repetitive session along the bypass over the past couple of months, and really need somewhere new, somewhere fresh to run. And now with my return to form, I can!
See Strava for more details on my run
For Mondays run I picked out a route I hadn't run in awhile... from my home I head North into town, take a sharp left and then head South through Brant Road. I then take another left to head up into Waddington, and then carry back into my village.
Its a nice, varied route, some 'urban' streets, some suburban residential housing estate, and then some more open country roads
of course, it was dark when I ran this, so I couldn't really see much of my surroundings, but at least I knew it would be nice in daylight!
And it was really nice to finally do a 'different' and 'longer' route. The pace was a little slower than I'd normally do, but I'm still taking it easy
For Tuesday, I was in the office. I get 2 buses to work, and rather annoyingly the first bus was 15 minutes late, which resulted in me missing my second bus. The next bus after that was due in 30 minutes, and I decided to not bother waiting, and instead just walk up the hill to work:
Its not too far really, and actually helps me wake up I guess. Also helped that it was dry this morning.... if it had been chucking it down I would have waited in the Bus Station for the next one!
I did get some disappointing news while walking to work. I was due to have a physio appointment on Wednesday evening, and that has now been cancelled by the video due to a family emergency. I fully understand the reasoning, and I wish her and her family all the best, but I was really looking forward to it
It's not just a super useful thing to help me recover from the injury, but it's actually quite a nice relaxing experience in its own right.
It did leave me with a change in plan. I was going to do a short run on tuesday, take a rest day on wednesday with the physio, and then run again Thursday. Now there was a change, I decided to move my rest day to Tuesday, and then I would be recovered and ready for my next run on Wednesday
And here it is....
If you think it looks very similar to Mondays run, well, you'd be right!
It was exactly the same area/loop, although technically I did do the route backwards this time...
so heading down into Waddington, turn right to run up Brant road, and then the sharp right to turn back towards home
The pace was a little slower, but it was the same distance of 12km, and really nice to think that in the last 7 days I've managed to run a 14km run and two separate 12km run... really feeling a lot more positive about it now.
I'm still going to keep up with the physio sessions of course, I think they help not just with injury issues, but with general maintenance and well being too. If it helps me to keep running regularly, and to enjoy it, then its definitely worth spending the money on it. She said she'd contact me in a week or 2 to rearrange my appointment, so its some to look forward to at least!
For tomorrow I have a shorter 5/6km ish run planned, and then a rest day on Friday. Saturday will be parkrun day again, and I'm currently trying to decided if I should stay with my closest one, or branch out to run on the other side of town. I think the sensible money is on the closest one, no point in carried away just yet haha!
