Morning Run: Head for the hills!

in EXHAUST3 years ago

Another lovely sunny day here. It has been a while since I did any fast intervals, so I went up to West Drive to do some there. There is a 300m stretch from the first road hump to the bollards that block access to Fairfield and it rises 6m. That climb adds to the effort required. You can see I was taking it easy on the way down as I needed to recover.

Route

I aim to do that segment at under 5min/km, but was struggling on the last couple. I ought to do this workout every week to build that speed. GAP is the grade adjusted pace that gives some idea of what the equivalent would be on the flat. I would love to be able to sustain that pace.

Segments

It was a good workout overall. At some point I may be going into the office more often and that will make it harder to do morning runs, so I need to make the most of this time. I used to do lunchtime runs from the office as they have showers, so I may have to go back to that eventually to get my runs in each week. I just do not fancy getting up at 6am to run before work as I did those early starts for many years in my last job.

Stats

Run free and stay well.

I don't blame you for not wanting to get up at 6. I'd take 6 over my 4 though! We had sun yesterday but none for us today. Nice job on your run. We are heading on a mini vacation in a little bit so I am hoping to get some good walking in then.

Quality of life is important and I'm so glad I got a job nearer home. I don't mind a pay cut to get all those travel hours back.

Enjoy your break.

Yeah, I don't blame you for that. Our commute is like 30 minutes each way. It isn't too bad because we get to ride together most days and it isn't bumper to bumper traffic like you get in the big cities. I know some people have just a couple miles to travel but it takes them multiple hours. The 30 minutes is nice too because it gives us time to decompress after the work day and shake off the bad juju before we enter our home :)

I was driving up to 90 mins each way by the end as it just kept getting worse. Now it's about 30 on foot and train. Sometimes the trains are messed up, but I can live with that.

Only one thing to say...

Maiden! They are a band I have always heard, but never dived deep into their albums. That could be something to check out on Spotify. Seems they are still rocking.

!BEER

They were solid fare on the new wave of British Heavy Metal, so they always showed up in the things played when the parties got fuzzy and late :) But, yes. They probably do deserve some attention.

Very good workout! You can combine this exercise with some fartleks as well

I !LUV the early morning starts but not the commute. I find it easy in summer but much harder in the winter when it's cold, dark and wet.
