The Northern part of Ghana, West Africa is one of the most misjudged and stereotyped parts in the country. The importance of ethnic diversity in regional development cannot be over-emphasized. This is accentuated by the fact that if there is peaceful co-existence among all the ethnic groups, it would enable the region to harness the manpower resources needed for nation-building and speed up regional development. Put differently, a multicultural Region like Northern Region is supposed to be a place where all people`s identity is respected so that the region can harness its ethnicity (ethnic differences) to promote socio-economic benefits.
Unfortunately, one possible effect of ethnicity is the assigning of stereotypes to ethnic groups, of which the Northern Region is not an exception. The northern region has become a region that is deeply embedded with stereotypes. A lot of stereotyping goes on in the Northern region and most of the time, our ethnic groups are victims of stereotyping. I foresee a vision of a region in which pluralism, non-discrimination, tolerance, Justice, solidarity, and equality between women and men prevail. I foresee a vision of a one ☝🏾 North instead of the tribal regional divisions which aids more in stereotyping.
In our everyday hustle, we tend to do away with our differences because of what we’ll get into our pockets. The Koko seller in my area wouldn’t say because you’re a waala by tribe so she won’t sell for you... Why do we patronize each other’s products yet we don’t have love for one another? We’re the only people who can protect ourselves and our culture from the rest of the world by uniting as one ☝🏾 people.
They are our leaders who beat the Northernisms out of us, when we’re all empty without a soul of love for our rich culture, and values, to our co-people and sister tribes, they fill us with something that will divide and sink us to the bottom, which is the word of development and then we the whole five (5) Northern Ghana begin to think to stereotype each other and fall into their traps as they always wanted us to be. We begin to think that it is not accurate for a different northerner who is not our tribe mate to head any of our institutions despite the person having the qualities so that our own who lacks the acquisitive knowledge of how about of leading should be made to lead. There you will see that we’ll continue to deteriorate because of our ignorance and tribasic attitudes.
We will ignorantly separate ourselves in the celebration of our festivals wise if we were United then come together as one people to celebrate our festivals on the same day at the same location with our paramount chiefs sitting at the top hierarchy, the revenue it will have yielded for the growth of the North. They, first of all, get to our women and pollute their thinking by building shea nuts factories for them in their respected tribe regions, they do that we, and it is so pathetic, they do that to us because they know our women are the fountain of life and once they change our women, we weak men will be changed, Ask yourself what will have happened if we have a central shea nut factory where all the five(5) Northern regions process their shea nuts into beautiful finished products the kind of revenue it will have yielded and how it will have help in the growth of Northern Ghana if it was going to be one big North. We must stop the stereotype, the nepotism, and the tribasic attitudes of us and realize our potential of uniting and building one big North.
