Hilarious Chronicles From Ghana’s 2024 Elections

I’ve been laughing at certain things happening in Ghana for the past 2 days now. For those who do not know, we had our general elections on Saturday, 7th December and I’m not really here to talk about the outcome of the elections. I just want to say my two cents about certain observations and other things that have been cracking me up.

Just this morning, my friend said the incumbent MP for his vicinity lost his seat because they were all angry at him. It happened that he had 4 years to fix the roads but he didn’t and that was about 4 years ago. When they asked him why, he said 4 years wasn’t enough so they voted him back for 4 more years and guess what? He still didn’t do it.

He brought excavators to the road side about 3 days to election to show the people that he can actually do the job if they give him extra 4 years to the 8 years . Listen, that wasn’t the funny part. The part that made me laugh was the fact that they said ever since he was voted into power, they’ve not even set their eyes on him. He only appeared about a month or two to election. Like come on!!! This isn’t just hilarious. It is a big insult to the people.

Anyway, the other matters that got my attention was how most young men all had candidates they wanted to vote against. And most young women also had people they wanted to vote for. Let me explain. So it was alleged that the young men wanted to vote against certain candidates because they were their girlfriends’ sugar daddies and were the reason they lost their girlfriends. I’m sure I don’t need to explain why the young ladies had plans of voting for certain people too. If this is true, then I really don’t even know what to say again because ah…

Oh there’s this other hilarious thing that is cracking Ghanaians up. So during the collation of the result, one of the polling stations had just 1 voter for a particular party. And information reaching us is that, this particular candidate for that party went to the same polling station with his wife to vote. We’ve all been laughing and asking the same question; who did his wife vote for? But wait o, if your wife can’t even trust you to vote for you then who are we to do that?

Another thing that caught me off guard was one lady’s interview with the press. She looked happy after the declaration of the results so the press asked her the main reason. Honestly, I thought she was going to say the president elect will change the economy or you know, probably say one of his policies. Ladies and gentlemen, she said she’s happy that the new president is tall. Yes you heard me right, tall.

On a more serious note, I’m happy that once again, we had a very peaceful election. One of my favourite moments in this election was when the candidate who lost, conceded to the candidate who won, peacefully. I believe it says a lot about the peace and unity we have as a country.
