Lesson; once beaten, twice shy, thrice stupid.

Life indeed is an endless field of learning. Day by day we encounter different situations and challenges. These are can either make us or break us. The issues is not with our experiences mostly but I think it has to do with what we make out of what we’ve been through.

We can choose to learn from our experiences and grow by applying the wisdom we gained from that experience next time for a positive result or we can chose to allow history repeat itself when we do not learn from our experiences hence piercing ourselves with more sorrow.

A lot has happened to me to shape me but am going to share with us this striking experience.

What happened and how did this shaped me.

The year 2021 was a vey phenomenal year for me. Phenomenal in the worst way possible. It’s been my worst year so far and am still learning from all the terrible things I passed through that particular year.

I had entered the year with utmost enthusiasm. Some how and some where deep within me something was telling me that it’s the year am goin to make my first one million. Hahahha. I could just feel it in my guts. The question was how do I start?

Well, a friend of mine has earlier told me about a colleague of his that started a company and they were calling for investors. It was a forex trading company. The year ROI was popularized. When you invest with them, they trade for you and give you returns on your investment monthly.

Well that was just the right motivation I needed but I didn’t have the money for the investment. I had one of my mentors who stays abroad. I went to him and asked him for money to invest in this company and that I would spay him back in three months.

From our calculations, I should have my one million in three months all things being equal. Well things never seem to be equal. Along the line, I had an issue with the friend whom I was supposed to partner in the investment after I got the money which was five hundred thousand Naira.

I decide to invest the money in a similar investment but this time around online. A friend of mine also introduced me to this investment line. They had been receiving their returns on their investment for months and I was excited to join. I took the 100,000 Naira I had in my savings and joined it to the loan I received and invested all of them.

Men and brethren, I even invited a friend who invested 250,000 Naira. It wasn’t up to two weeks later when the whole story turned upside down. I didn’t know the company was a Ponzi scheme and they were scammers who were out to scam people.

The company closed up after two weeks of investment and the whole money was gone down the drain. I thought I was going to die. Where would I get 500,000 to pay back my debt. The entire year was a trying one. I was depressed and sick for months.

It was then I understood what Ponzi scheme was all about and I swore to always make enough researches before taking any financial decisions that has to do with investment and I also swore to never have anything to do with a Ponzi scheme again.

That incident gave me financial wisdom. If it’s too good to be true then it’s probably not true. It taught me to avoid get rich quick schemes and looking for short cuts to wealth creation.

Last week a friend introduced me to another business investment and after making my research, I found out it was another Ponzi scheme rebranded. He said that the company is still new and I could join and still cash out before they fold but I’ve decided never to have anything to do with Ponzi schema again and I turned down the offer. One beaten, twice shy and I would say thrice stupid.

There’s no short cut to wealth creation and greed will only lead to more losses. Say no to Ponzi schemes.

Hope you learnt something from my experience. Your thoughts on this is welcomed.
