From Childhood Dreams to Reality: A Journey of Growth and Self-Discovery

in HiveGhana19 hours ago

We all have those childhood photos where we looked absolutely adorable—big smiles, round faces, and eyes full of curiosity. And now, when we look at ourselves in the mirror or at our recent pictures, we see someone completely different. Not just in appearance but in experience, knowledge, and understanding of life.

Looking back at my childhood photos, I can’t help but smile. Life was simple back then. My biggest concerns were probably playing, eating, and dreaming about what I wanted to become in the future. I had so many dreams—things I believed I would achieve without fully understanding the reality of how life works. Now, at 21, I realize that while I have accomplished some of those childhood dreams, others are still a work in progress.

One of the biggest things I wished for as a child was to study an animal-related course. I was always fascinated by animals—watching them, learning about them, and imagining working with them when I grew up. Today, I am living that dream. I am currently studying in the field of agriculture, working with animals, and gaining real-life experience in something I have always loved. That’s a win for my childhood self, and I know he would be proud of me.

But of course, not everything has gone exactly as I imagined. As a kid, I had this ambitious dream of making my first million naira by the age of 20. Back then, it sounded so easy—just grow up, work hard, and somehow the money would come pouring in. Well, reality had other plans. I haven’t hit that goal yet, and even at 21, I’m still working towards financial independence. But does that mean it’s impossible? Not at all. I believe in the process, and I know that with time, effort, and consistency, I can still achieve it.

Beyond finances and career, I’ve also grown in ways I never really thought about as a child. Mentally, I see life differently now. I’ve learned to be patient, to embrace challenges, and to keep pushing forward even when things don’t go my way. Physically, I’ve obviously changed—from that small, energetic kid to who I am now. Emotionally, I’ve become stronger. Life has been a rollercoaster, with its ups and downs, but every experience has shaped me into the person I am becoming.

So, do I have everything I wished for as a child? Not yet. But I’m getting there. And honestly, that’s what life is all about—growing, improving, and working towards the future you want for yourself.

Now, I’d love to hear from you! When you look at your childhood photos compared to now, what comes to your mind? Have you achieved the things you once wished for, or are you still on the journey? Share your story—I’m sure we all have something to reflect on!

So nice to see that you achieved your dream of studying about animals. Keep going for all your dreams. We love to see it!

Growth is quite inevitable so it's either you work towards other things as you age or watch yourself age without having anything to show. Glad you are living your dream life.
