Things are going to change...

in HiveGhana7 days ago

Greetings!

For me, I like people who do things differently, whether good or bad. It shows that they are unique and not mere copycats of what others have been doing. I remember a certain time when a new boss was transferred to my office to replace the one there. When he reported, just the day I went on to show him the setup of the office—a church management office, though—he began instructing me to remove, change, and replace things. I smiled because I knew he had come with his own style.

If I become the president of my nation for one day, I would change things—unimaginable things—that would make my name resonate around the world, just like how our current president did on the day he was sworn in. I remember clearly, he declared the removal of the fuel subsidy, and immediately, the nation was thrown into "hot fire."

Below is what I would do if I became the president of my nation for one day:

Return Fuel Subsidy

No lies, some people would not be okay with this as it's a burden to the country. But hey, I've seen and heard many people lament and cry for the return of the fuel subsidy because things were a bit better in those days, and that's very true. The current hardship we are facing sprung up from the removal of the fuel subsidy, which skyrocketed the cost of living. Yes, I know that reinstating the fuel subsidy would burden the country's financial purse, but come on—ever since it was removed, we haven't seen any significant changes or good things achieved with the money realized from the subsidy removal. So, it's better to go back to the easier days when fuel was sold around N300 and N400.

The truth is, this announcement would throw the nation, especially the low-level citizens which is the majority, into celebration. Showers of praises would be directed at me, and they would thank God for bringing me into power because they've tasted life without the fuel subsidy for two to three years, and it's nothing to write home about. It's been suffering upon suffering. The only people who would frown upon this decision are the officials benefitting from squandering the money realized from the subsidy removal and also the citizens who claim to know the future.

Would Reinstating the Fuel Subsidy Be a Return to Slavery?

Well, that's likely true, because we'll keep paying bills continuously. But as much as it is not ideal, fuel subsidy should only be done when there are plans in place to supplement the effects of its eventual removal. These plans should reduce the hardship that people would face—not just removing it and throwing the nation into fire straight from the frying pan.

Of course, many people would not like the idea of reinstating the fuel subsidy. There would be backlash, and I wouldn't care at all. That’s what would make me different from others. You’ve heard about some of the bold changes that Trump made when he was sworn in, right? There were backlashes, but he didn’t mind, and that’s exactly how it’s supposed to be.

Thanks for reading.
