In loving memories of Christmas

Thinking back when the word Christmas popped up all I could think of was the new clothes, shoes and the delicious delicacies that we would cook.

Also the going around with semiras filled with rice and meat to different people that my mum would have written down before the big day. We all wanted to be the one to take the food to specific families because we knew after they washed the semira they'd find a way to stuff money inside.

You would think we gave the money to our mum but nope, the money was ours to keep. All we gave to our mum was the salutations from the families. Somehow that was more than enough to make our mum smile and feel happy.

After we returned from church service that day, the house is filled with family members and friends. We spend the entire day eating, gisting and just generally having fun.

Everyone talks about how the year had been and the interesting things they had encountered. It was such a beautiful sight to behold.

My Dad always wraps it up with his words of wisdom and his comic relief. Afterwards we bid each other farewell to meet again the same time next year.

Moving on to the next day, the day of reckoning. Why did I call it that? Dear Lord, because that's when we'd have to wash the entire pots, plates, warmers, semiras, spoons... Just name it that was used to put all the delicacies together.

I remember looking for a reason to leave the house very early in the morning so that my sisters will be the ones to do all the work but my mum always caught me and I ended up doing the bulk of the work.

Now that I look back, what I wouldn't give to experience those days again. Sadly, it's gone and gone for life I dare say.

Right now, I am in a different town, my elder sister is in an entirely different state with her family and my dad is late...

Growing older is a blessing. It's interesting to see how it takes away the joy we once had as kids about certain things and events, maybe it's because we are now responsible for the purchase of the clothing, the shoes, the rice and even the cooking. Funny how when we were kids all we wanted to be was adults.

Christmas is a time to share love, eat and drink also to appreciate the birth of Jesus and all his birth gave to us as believers.

Oooh Sorry, I got carried away there... The question was..."how will I celebrate my Christmas?" Right, urmmm I would probably travel home depending on what my account says. But I would always want to be in the company of family eating, singing, dancing and just having a swell time together.

This is my response to @hive.ghana weekly prompt

"CHRISTMAS
We are almost at that times of the year everyone loves. So many holidays coupled with family gatherings and celebrations. This year , how do you plan to celebrate the Christmas festivities?

Is it with your family, friends or you’d just be stuck up in your room like any normal day?"
