Greetings to all and sundry,
It is a beautiful day today and a wonderful opportunity to come your way today with a report of how the Hive Health Community Outreach as announced previously on the 31st of April went.
Before i go on to give the breakdown of the events outline and how things went, let me quickly say a big thank to the Medical Team who made today's even possible. Calling on friends to join me as the leader of the Hive health team wasn't as simple as it may seem mostly because the day happened to be a holiday and an opportunity to rest for the stress of the week.
Yet, they heeded my call and together made this whole thing beautiful and so a big thank you to Dr. Caroline Naana Yaaney, Ivy Donkor, Mary Vanessa, Hilda Glokpor and Maureen. I would also like to say a big thank you to @mcsamm, @collinz, the team, @zicogh, @awuahbenjamin and @kreativita for making this possible and to @jude for passing through.
My appreciation to @theycallmedan, @guiltyparties and @valueplan for the sponsorship and making it possible for us to touch lives on this day.
The Event
The program itself started around at 9am, the medial team alongside the media team was there by 8:30 by which time the community members were already seated and waiting for us. The number was quite good even before the beginning of the program, this was perhaps due to the announcement that was made on Osranee radio about our program and the Assembly man talking to the townfolks about Hive's great work which he has already witnessed and thus was convinced we would come through.
We began with a short introduction of the members of Hive and the medical team, i had educational talk about health and how they can make the most of our time there for the good of their sight, Awuah then spoke about Hive, what we stand for and some of the projects we have embarked on after which work started. There were 3 main divisions;
- The Blood Pressure Sector, where patients had their BP checked and advised on the results as well as medications and referrals.
- The Glucose Sector, where patients had their fasting blood sugar and their random blood sugars checked and advised on management plans, medication, and referrals.
- The Eye Unit, where the locals had a comprehensive eye examination with diagnosis explained, treatment or management meted out freely. This included reading glasses as well as medications and referrals on surgical options.
A total of about 250 patients or locals were cared for including the Chief of the Area and his wife, who were the first in queue by the time Hive Health arrived for the program. All of these individuals received some form of medication depending on their diagnosis and what they needed. About 100 reading glasses were given out to geriatrics who were suffering from Presbyopia.
Tv3 and Onua tv/fm were present to capture every moment for showcase on national television which is a great stepping stone for us as Hiver in putting Hive on the national scale we looked for. These two are both popular tv brands with wide coverage including DSTV which means they go even beyond the circumscribes of Ghana.
The most prevalent condition amongst the people that came in for the program today was allergic conjunctivitis and vernal conjunctivitis. This was not much of a surprise considering the fact that their road is a bit dusty and other environmental factors. One interesting finding after the event was the fact more than half thus 50% of the people who presented for the program had never seen an Optometrist since they were born.
Had it not being for this program, someone would not have ever had their eyes checked. Some glaucoma diagnosis were made due to their optic cupping and were started on timolol and were referred for further test and management since the condition is a delicate one, sight-threatening and needs constant reviews and care.
The program came to a halt somewhere after 3pm. All team members including Hivers and Medical team was provided with breakfast as well as lunch. This was then followed with a gallery and an appreciation session with the Community leaders for their time and support.
The Future
I believe that thee future with the Hive project is a great one, one that would continue to put Hive on national radar through social impact, touching lives and sight whiles promoting Hive's brand. This would also help us in the fight alongside the SDGs and IAPB's goal and fight against blindness.
Today about 150 individuals or more can now say that they have had an eye exams in their life since they were born and some people got lucky with glaucoma been caught during their care, which means that there is an opportunity to save their sight and they may not have to go blind in the future through effective care.
As the team leader i am working tireless with Mcsamm and Collinz and the rest of the Hive Ghana team to build a solid medical team that can be called on at any point in time and also enroll them on the blockchain. This could be our thing and it could go forward in the future to make hive even bigger and greater in Ghana. Hive is making waves and no one and nothing can stop it and we are proud of how far we have come.
From the first project to the second health screening exercise, things have been amazing and i know that the subsequent ones will be even more astounding if we continue to work hard to save sights.
Conclusion
Hive is the blockchain for web3 and the time to take hive to every door step in Ghana is now and what better way to do it than to present free healthcare to them whiles telling them of this amazing future, this revolution that is taking the globe by storm, an opportunity to not only learn but gain a skill, better yourself and share it with peers and loved ones along then way.
It has been a feather in my cap having had this opportunity and position to lead great personalities to touch sights and save lives. I look forward to more beautiful days ahead. Thanks for this opportunity and i wish you all and blessed week. Cheers!!!
