Fear of death... weekly-engagement #88.

Fear is a natural emotion. It is also an adjustable response that helps individuals to guide themselves from harm.

I personally have the fear of sleeping and not waking up one day, that is the fear of death. Sometimes I think about hoe death will come . "is it through sleep, sickness, accident or how it will appear"*.

I just keep imagining how the other side, that is the after life will be like. Sometimes I usually ask my husband jokingly "if we where to choose who will go to the great beyond first, who would he like to go first?"

The fear that one day all the properties that one has bought and acquired will become useless scares me. What about all the time spent in getting them? Will it become all tales?

I think going closer to my creator will be the best way to end it but the fear of actually dying is scary. I also have the fear of loosing a loved one untimely. People we value when they were alive but no resources to take care of them.

I just lost my brother in-law, thirteen months ago precisely during the celebration period. He traveled to the village to see his aged mum, promising his wife and children that he will be back to spend the new year with them .He never knew that, it was his last time of seeing his wife and kids before his death. He spent only three days at the village and on the fourth day, he was preparing to go back to meet with his family when he slumped and that was his end.

A call was put across to his wife. She received a hard shock because this was not something she prepared for, you can imagine the rest of the story. The burial process took one week,. Immediately after the burial at the village, the wife of the deceased told her husband's family that she was no longer staying. So she took her children and left the village, including the car her late husband drove to the village before he passed on.

His family began to grumble but she didn't pay attention to their noise. She left back to her work and place of residence. Just three days ago a call came through that she has also passed away.

This got me thinking, "did she meet her husband in the land of the death?" "was it him that called her or was it his absence she felt that marr her want to join him there?" Upon my investigation, I learnt that she never for once rode on the car her husband traveled with before his death .

The last time I spoke to her, she was upset stating that I do not use to call her often to ask of her welfare and that of her children and that she was disappointed in me. I quickly apologized to her unknown to me that, it would be the last time I will be speaking her .

I asked what could be the cause of her death and I was told that it was high blood pressure. "Hmmmmmm, what a pity!"

The only measure I use to tackle this fear of death that I have is living my everyday life as if I am living my last day on earth.

I also used to have the fear of death but since I know that it is a necessity, I gave up that fear. All I do now is to make impact in the lives of people I encounter.

Mmmmm, may God console the family. And give us grace to overcome our fears
