Not all trends should be followed

Nigerians are known for crazy trends, honestly, I don't know who always comes up with these ideas. Social media, I believe, is an open and free space where everyone comes to display their sanity and insanity, irrespective of their age. Nigeria is known for different slang and slogans; just at the beginning of the year 2024, that's January, we were all saying "no gree for anybody," that is, don't allow anyone to intimidate you. Then by June, the slogan was "steeze, maintaining 100% composure. But then last month, the new slogan was "a situation go whine you but no panic, "meaning don't fret or be afraid in a difficult situation. For August, the slogan is "demure." Honestly, I don't know what that means. Sometimes, I wonder who the creator of these words is, but then what can be done about it other than to enjoy the cruise?

Nigerians are known for good vibes and great energy; nothing caught us unaware; we are always prepared for everything, and even if we aren't prepared, it doesn't get long before we adapt to the new life. In social media these days, there are lots of trends ongoing, especially on TikTok; sometimes, I see many of them as not necessary or a good one, probably because I'm not the social type. Among the numerous trends on social media, there are two that I see as unnecessary. One of them is the one your name would be mentioned, and you will reply with the favorite words of either your mom or anyone close to you. For example, "Jane, your mother once said." It was a good one to begin with, and everyone was enjoying the vibes until teenagers, I can't call them young adults, took it awol. You'll see secondary school students on TikTok; they began their new trend of "your boyfriend once said," and their responses are always disheartening. It left me wondering where they are getting those responses from, imagining a fifteen-year-old girl having a boyfriend with five exes and still counting.

Unfortunately, there are no parents to correct them; lots of these young girls are victims of evil circumstances due to what they are exposed to on social media. They no longer have regard for good morals; they all want to live an extravagant lifestyle, which sometimes doesn't end well. As this is ongoing, the second one that always seems so unnecessary to me is the one that goes thus:I'm not the birthday girl or bride; I'm the bride's sister or r cousin." This trend was going smoothly as people were participating in it, even celebrities until certain people created their version, which pissed me off.

We can't curb some of these trends because, to some, it is their means of earning an income. But the best we can do is to monitor our children closely, especially their activities on social media. A ruined name or family may not feel the impact now; their unborn generations would be at the receiving end, suffering for what their past leaders had done. This is why not all trends should be followed; the things done presently that you think the world has forgotten will be kept on social media till you become a successful person in the future. Such things would now be released, which will stand as obstacles to a greater future later in one's life.

Thanks for your time, and your comments will be appreciated.

I still wonder how someone will start a trend and then it goes viral where everyone starts saying it. This year alone, lots of slogans have been introduced and this stuff keeps circulating everywhere and to tell you, they are meaningless to me seriously. Imagine children also going in the trends and their parents aren't helping to curb those habits from them. It is well with Nigerians.

Amen ooooo

Nigerians should be careful with trends that instead of adding positivity to our society add negativity to our society

Exactly boss, and parents are not helping

They no longer have regard for good morals; they all want to live an extravagant lifestyle, which sometimes doesn't end well.

I couldn’t have agreed more as you have said it all

The end is destruction

I’m curious to know which other version of “I’m not the bride” they created.
15 years have a boyfriend with 5 exes? Ei!

I'm not the girlfriend, I'm not d birthday girl, I'm not the fuckmate
