A warm afternoon to my hive family, weather as we all know is the state of the atmosphere and this has to do with the dryness, coldness, cloudiness of a particular time and season of a particular place, this means, weather is part of what God created and it's part of life because it determines our day to day activities. The weather determines what we put on in terms of clothing, what we eat either hot or cold, and atimes where we go. So, it's a major part of human life.
As we are approaching the end of the year, most especially the Christmas season, alot has changed about the weather In my area. Just last month, the raining season in my area just ended and in this part of the world that I belong to which is Nigeria, we only have two season in a year which is the raining and the dry season.
This two season determines the weather of my country in a calendar year. For instance, the dry season for my side starts from November till late April, while the raining season starts from that Apriil till October. So this two season determine the weather overhere.
The raining season here and I believe everywhere is full of cold, storm , whirlwind and so on, this is the time when farmers in my area plant their crops, unlike like the dry season where everywhere is hot and heat the order of the day. This period of the year is always accompanied with dryness and people takes comfort in cold drinks to cool their body. The sales of cold drink is always on the rise during this period of the year and the use of air conditioners at home, offices and in the cars is on the high.
Here in south western part of Nigeria in the city of Ibadan, the oyo state capital. What we are experiencing as we approach the end of the year and the Christmas season is dry and hot weather. We are in the harmattan period of the year and the atmosphere is always sunny everyday, even, right from the morning, the heat is being felt till when the sun sets,. people look for cold drinks being hawk around by the hawkers on the street or at various drink shop or restaurant. Air conditioners at homes, offices and inside the cars are being made use of. Atimes because of the scorching sun , people use umbrella to cover their head, some use face cap to prevent the rage of the sun and some of the roadside traders uses the local weaven cap for protectio. in short , people around here devise various measure to ensure that the heat is not that felt .
Also, this period of the year in my area, is a period of dust, you see dust everywhere, dust on the surface of the home appliances, also, as the result of the too much dust because of the weather, people catch cold and to some, they react to this hot weather and fall sick.
During this hot weather season in my area, people like me take refuge under trees at their various backyards, compound and so on just to enjoy the breeze coming from the leaves. Also people look for shades here and there to cool their heads. Although at night, we enjoy cool breeze in my area, most especially those whom their houses are very close to big streams or river that can't get dried up totally but partially. Also, some that has verandas or uncompleted decking in my area roll out their mat at any time of the day to cool their hot bodies. This means, all are looking for fresh air instead of rage of the heat.
What of the plants? The plants also get dried up during the dry/harmattan season in my area as we are experiencing now just because of the weather and to the farmers, this is not the best of the time to plant their crops. Any plants planted in this season will dry up because of the harsh/ hot weather. The streams, rivers, even the well get dried up . Some streams get dried up partially and to some completely. Drainages also get dried up , because of the weather and this will even affect the livestock farmers in area to feed their stocks very well.
Also, during this hot weather in this part of the world, people don't put on cardigan or heavy clothing but a very light and simple one which help to prevent the hotness of weather and allow the fresh air to breeze into the body. This simple dress also help to prevent people from sweating. Someone like me don't move around during this hot weather period and this is because, I don't like the scorching of the sun , so atimes after the day's work, I stay indoor until every when everywhere is cool. Whenever I get home from the scorching sun, the first thing I do is to take my bath with cold water and take a rest.
Furthermore, during this hot weather period, people are always careful and this is because of the fire outbreak that used to happen because of the dryness and hotness of the weather during this period. Although, it's has it's own advantages, but I prefer the cold weather to the hot one, this is because here in Nigeria where the power supply is not that adequate, we open our windows just to allow fresh air to come into our rooms. This period is a very hot period , but as humans, we adapt to any situation that comes our ways easily. As for me, I av already adapted the the scorching of the sun and the hot weather.
