Christmas in the Village: A Return to Tradition

in HiveGhana2 days ago (edited)

The waves gradually creep in, and the echoes of the beautiful songs of the season grace the earth... It's once again the season of Christmas; one of the most anticipated celebration for Christians worldwide. Well, most Christians, since I recently got to know that some Christians don't celebrate that at all.

Christmas has actually been losing the core values attached to it over the years as people no longer take it as a religious celebration which it is, but rather, has turned it as an opportunity to flaunt their wealth.
This trend creats unnecessary pressure for the ones who aren't well to-do financially, sometimes even leading to many crimes during this period; even to the extent of taking extreme measures like money rituals just to counted in as one of the "happening boys" in town.

There is no doubt that Christmas season should be celebrated in a big way because it signifies the beginning of something great in the life of every Christian but the question remains: Are we celebrating it the right way?

That aside, the period of Christmas has never been so special to me for the past seven years because most times, my exams start by January 4th or 5th as a student, hence, during the Christmas and New year celebrations, I'm always locked in with my books, hehehe but this year will be different because I have finally graduated.

For this particular Christmas celebration, I will be celebrating it with my family, not just my nuclear family but my extended family, hehehe.
It's been a while since we went to our hometown for the Christmas celebration, hence, I gave my parents reasons why we should go and they accepted.

Just envisioning how the celebration will unfold is already exciting.
We will be travelling few days before Christmas to tidy up our home and then get most of the things in order.

Every 24th of December is always a special day in my village, it's the day for the village league matchday finals and you know what that means to me as a football lover 😂. I will be going to the village square with my cousins, enjoying the match over bottles of beer. Nothing beats that and of course to criticize against the referee and shouting, "don't you watch ball?" Whenever he blows the whistle against the team I'm supporting even if it was the right call, hehehe (it's all for the fun of the game though)

The next thing after that will be going to the Christmas vigil mass, I've always preferred going for the vigils over going for the daytime mass on Christmas day and rather than singing the Christmas carols myself, my playlist will be doing that for me, lol.

As "returnee", I am sure the very day of Christmas will be a bit busy since many of our relatives will be coming around, I will sure stay with my family till it's evening before heading out with my cousins (more like, I'll be sharing my celebration; half of the time with my family and the other half with my friends, hehe)

We will tour the town and get to know it the more, it's really been long I went to the village so just the thoughts of me going is already something interesting to me and that will be a wrap.

The season of Christmas is one that should be enjoyed by everyone but never lose focus of the true essence.

Instead of resorting to crime to commit just to have a cozy celebration, have a peaceful one and meditate.

Thanks for reading and have a nice day 👍

The values of Christmas, sadly has been lost but to those who understand then they understand that it is a time of sharing and togetherness. A time to be grateful all the more to God for the work of redemption to mankind

Honestly, it's something that has gotten depreciated but I honestly pray we get to always stick that in our mind.

Hehe, we have the same plans man. I will be travelling to my hometown for Christmas too and I can get to experience tradition too as there will be a celebration.

Heheh... I wish us well👍
