Thinking back, I am telling myself “Tory you tried”.
You endured beating both from mommy and teachers. Remembering the day my mom came to my school, after she had dropped us already, before we left the house, she kept on reminding me to pick up my water bottle.
Back then, I hated carrying a lunch box to school but mummy still forced me to take my water can along since she never permits us drinking school water but my reluctance to carry extra load aside my school bag made me forget the water can.

The next thing I saw was my mom on my assembly ground, obviously looking for me.
Oh, I wished I knew beforehand what she had in mind?
Just about taking a step off the assembly ground, mommy walked down to my lane and gave me a beating right there.. The realization of the cane on her hand came too late.
Funny, nobody stopped her, not even teachers. I was both embarrassed and flogged because I forgot my water can..lol
Or is it the story of my days as a class prefect?
I should have probably collected a reward of “best in writing the names of noise makers.”
Once the teacher says “Victory” , tear a sheet of paper and write names of noise makers, you'll see how the house would be silent as that of a graveyard.
You dare not sneeze, or say “hisss” or hit your hands on the desk, to me it's counter as making noise. So once I am incharge, you better be ready to act as a dump in passing a message to the next person.
This had been my policy until I by mistake pitied one of the crew girls who talked while the list was on. When my teacher came to request the names to be called out, i mentioning those listed with exception of this girl,just for the class to shout “Ahhhh”
By the time my teacher discovered the truth, I was punished to receive the cane of everyone who's name was written.
Just so you know, my teacher doesn't even make use of the regular cane, it was those bamboo sticks that they tie with rubber bands she uses. At last, i lay tummy flat on one of the desk table to be flogged 13 stokes of lashes😭
It was ehnn.. However since I normally do “odeyshe rapata” ( forming the big girl style) I didn't share a tear at least to shame my classmates who were hoping to see me cry.. Oh yes! I didn't give them that opportunity at all.
I must say, this generation is indeed enjoying it. It's either they don't flog at all, or those who flog give a limit of maybe 2-3 strokes of the cane and it must be on the hand.
Naturally, I really wouldn't mind these logic inasmuch as there have other ways to discipline their students.

Everyone wanted to be on good terms with the class prefect back😅 to save their skin. That’s how I managed to stay out of the list most of the times
