Nightly Dungeon | Short Update March

short update march.jpg

It has been a couple of months since our last posted update. A short break was taken to work on a side project. We have been back into the swing of things for a little while now working on making a huge mess in hopes of the next release by end of the month.

Since last year we were waiting on a company that has been known for creating decent network architecture and other systems to get into the Unreal Engine space. That company before that was working on only Unity-related stuff. They have continued to have a lot of setbacks on their Unreal Engine version and have not posted an update in many months or given any ETAs. They were supposed to release it in full back in 2021.

While we were looking to spend between 500 to $1k there is only so long we can wait for solutions that are not even out yet alone, let alone, vetted and proven themselves. It was time to move on and find other solutions that would at least help aid on where we were struggling.

As such some other solutions we went with elsewhere. These solutions are not as powerful or as in-depth as we would have liked. In many cases, we were just looking to see how others resolved issues we were running into so we could implement our fixes.

Coding has been a love-hate relationship since the day I decided I was going to make a game in Unreal Engine. Between the bugs and so many things have an impact on each other. It does not take long for them to become a real mess by just wanting to do some simple thing.

Quite a few changes are being worked and a lot of things are being overhauled. Everything from improvements to NPC AI to getting all our classes working as they should be and fully playable in our Beta. Not to mention issues with things not saving the way we would have liked.

The project since the start in 2020 has grown to such a massive size you can’t just make a quick and small change anymore. Even wanting to make one small change or fix something could impact dozens or more blueprints in Unreal Engine at this point.

I’m hoping to push an update by end of the month for beta testers. I’m not quite sure what all will end up making into that update. While I’ve wanted to include an update for the new town created back in December a lot of things are just a mess at this time and not playable as they are being worked on.

It’s like taking apart an entire car just to reach something that you can fix. To only realize since the whole thing is taken apart you might as well work on a bunch of other things before putting it back together. Otherwise, you will have to retake it part later to do the work anyway.

Final thoughts

I hope everyone else’s projects have been going great. Hopefully, things will be in much better shape by end of the month. Lots of late nights ahead.
