Ah yes, some Billy Volek lore on this fine December evening!
I was a young kid but I do remember these games somewhat well!
Billy Volek was a career long backup, but for a few games two decades ago Volek proved he was no scrub. He proved he's got some skills and tricks up his sleeve. When Volek got an opportunity, he shot his shot that's for sure, and he became a mini legend while doing so.
Volek got his chance to make a name for himself in 2004 because of an injury riddled season for Steve McNair. For two games in December of that year, Volek balled out! The Titans lost both of those games, but they were straight up high scoring thrillers!
Volek threw for 426 yards against the Chiefs on the 13th, and then just a few days later, December 19th, 2004, he threw for 492 against the Raiders and was 40/60 on the day.
Not every player can be a star or legend. Players like Volek sometimes make the game special. Fun memories I'll never forget as a youngster.
I was expecting a Christmas movie, but the top movie out in theaters when Volek was throwing DARTS was 'A Series of Unfortunate Events' with Jim Carrey. Never read the books but great movie. I was disappointed when there was never a sequel. I did watch a few episodes of the show years back. Takes me back man. TWENTY YEARS!
