Ken Macha is the first MLB manager I remember since I was such a big A's fan as a kid. I was always intrigued by his super white hair LOL.
But before I ever learned of him, Ken had a pretty long life of baseball and played himself. Ken appeared in five games for the Pirates in 1974, but played MLB level baseball mainly from 1977-1981.
From 1977-1981, Macha averaged appearing in 35 games a season. His last MLB game came in 1981 and he finished his career with 98 hits, 1 home run and a .258 batting average.
Macaha's career in pro baseball did not end there though. He would go onto play four more years of pro ball in Japan and hit 82 home runs with a .304 batting average.
After his playing days finally ended, Macha immediately became an MLB coach until getting his shot at being the A's manager in 2003. He managed the A's until 2006, managed the Brewers for two seasons in 2009 and 2010 and has been retired ever since.
As a manager, Macha was 525-447 and made the post season twice.
Pretty interesting, solid life of baseball for Ken Macha.
