I'm surprised I had never heard of Dale Murphy besides through this card! I've had the card awhile, but my arrogant self never bothered actually reading the back of the card. I just thought he was some average player or something.
But Dale Murphy was legit! He had a career that was almost good enough to be a Hall of Famer, but he seems to have barely fallen short.
The card itself describes his career pretty well. I wonder how Murphy feels about being just TWO homers short of 400?? That would bug me.
This guy was 6'5"! Not too many players his size nowadays, I can only imagine he must have stood out in his time.
Still, this card cannot label all of Murphy's accomplishments. Murphy was also a 7x All-Star, 5x Gold Glove Winner, 4x Silver Slugger Winner, led the NL in both Homers and RBI's twice.
His number three for the Braves is retired and he's in the Braves Hall of Fame.
After all these years, it's an awesome feeling to finally learn about Dale Murphy.
Perhaps Dale should be in the Hall?
