Ole Miss (The University of Mississippi) has produced a lot of high level wide receivers in the past fifteen years or so. Mike Wallace, D.K. Metcalf, and a personal favorite player of mine, A.J. Brown, all played their college football at Ole Miss. The list might not be insanely long but that's still a very quality list.
Young NFL wide receiver Elijah Moore aims to be the next great Ole Miss wide out, and he absolutely has the skill to do so! I remember there was moderate speculation that the Titans might draft him in 2021 to join up with A.J. Brown and have a duo of Ole Miss receivers terrorize the league.
BUT that didn't happen, and the Jets snagged Elijah very early in the second round. The Jets don't always make the best draft selections, but I would have to say that this selection was pretty solid.
Moore missed some games in 2021 due to injury, but when he was on the field, it was pretty clear that the kid is pretty effective. Had he not gotten injured, he may have somewhat sniffed 1,000 yards receiving on the season.
In contrast to the past Ole Miss receivers I mentioned who are all at least six feet tall, Moore is about 5'9" and is more of a speedy/quick type of receiver. He has a hint of Deebo Samuel in him too due to his ability to run the ball a bit and his pretty obvious strong lower body.
I think Moore's rookie year was overall decent. He definitely showed a lot of promise. If he can bulk up a bit and stay healthy, the Jets may have found an old reliable, T.Y. Hilton/Robert Woods type of player. I'm not comparing Moore's playstlye to be exactly the same as Woods and Hilton, but more in terms of impact on the game. Just a thorn in the side of defenses.
Maybe Moore would find it insulting since he's pretty versatile, but he could absolutely be a BEASTLY slot weapon for the Jets. If Moore wanted to dedicate himself to that position, he could be realllllly lethal there.
Hopefully for Jets fans sake, Moore can help turn that franchise around, starting in 2022. They have a young QB, a decent head coach, some offensive weapons and they just reloaded in the draft. Perhaps better days are ahead for Jets fans.
I like this card a lot. I actually have TWO of these somehow! Maybe if Moore explodes in skill and popularity, I could sell one AND keep one LOL. Or sell both. Either way, just a nice card. Rookie cards are always so nice.
Anyone have thoughts on Elijah and his NFL future?
Elijah in college.
A decent little interview with Mr. Moore.
