I am glad to learn about Mike Gminski through this card. He is one of those old diamond in the rough players who had a fairly above average NBA career but to many he is somewhat forgotten. I suppose there's some older Nets and Sixers fans that remember him. He is also likely remembered by many at Duke University for helping the team reach a Final Four as the card describes. Duke even advanced to the National Championship game before losing to Kentucky. Duke has a rich basketball history with a massive fanbase so I am sure his name is remembered there.
Gminski not only helped lead Duke to the Final Four in 1978, but he was honored as one of the best players in the entire tournament. He was named to the All-Region Team in the East AND named to the All-Tournament Team as well.
He was drafted #7 overall in 1980 and while he was never some mega superstar and was never awarded with any kind of award as a pro, I can tell he had some legit game. He was steady and consistent. Gminski played in 938 games and averaged about 12 points, 7 rebounds and 1 assist a game. He was also a very good free throw shooter. From 1985-1989 he averaged practically 17 points and 9 rebounds a game. He achieved career highs in both points AND rebounds in the same game on April 9th, 1986.
Today is the anniversary of that game. 39 years ago today!

The big movie out in the US back when Gminski was recording his career highs against the Celtics was likely 'Police Academy 3: Back in Training'. I've definitely never seen this one LOL.
