I first got into the Hive ecosystem from playing Splinterlands.
I've read somewhere that players can go to splintertalk.io and post stuff and it's possible to earn in-game currency doing so. After I got familiar with the subject it turned out that what I was really doing there was interacting on the Hive ecosystem. At that point, I didn't know that PeakD, Hive Blog, and Splintertalk were all the same thing.
I started playing Splinterland because of the Play-to-Earn aspect of it. I thought it'd be nice if I can make money playing games since I already play games during my leisure time anyway.
So it came as no surprise that I was really blown away by the concept of people getting cryptocurrency for just posting. It was really surprising how a newly made post, just a few hours old about traveling somewhere with not even a thousand words written and filled with just pictures could earn the author hundreds of dollars worth of hive.
So I wanted to get in on what everyone's in. What I can write about Splinterland as a new player is really limited. The most I can do is write of my day to day experience with the game. So far I haven't gotten anything more than a few cents for it per post and im resigned that that's as much as I'll get.
I like writing. It's one of my passions. It's important to me to write about what I personally like. I don't think I can try writing whatever is making those bloggers the most money, I just can't. Meanwhile, I don't have anything in common with the rest of the users on Hive besides Splinterlands.
I had thought that the communities, or rather the topic of blog posts and discussions on Hive were limited. Only today did I realize that the "communities" that I could view were simply ones that were featured by PeakD and that there are countless communities big and small out there for all sorts of interests.
So this realization made me hopeful that whatever it is that I like to write about, there's a place to write about it here on Hive. I now realize that Hive isn't just a place with a limited amount of topics to discuss and communities around them. There can always be new topic of discussion, and new communities can be born all the time.
Hive is a social media, one like Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, or even online forums. But it's on a blockchain and each person owns their content and they can earn cryptocurrency for creating content.
I had low hope of writing and earning anything on here. I had staked 5HP and thought I would just write one post every day about Splinterlands since that's all I really have in common with the people on Hive. I couldn't unstake it right away and I didn't want the RC regeneration to be wasted.
To the person who made this community I want to say thank you. You helped me learn that Hive is much much more than what I first thought.
And that's barely five hundred words. Phew! I'm glad I wrote enough.
While part of earning is quality content, another is down to popularity.
I can guarantee that a lot of those people making a hundred buck per post have been here for years and posting regularly for that time.
The two best pieces of advice that i can give for a new person starting are to engage on other posts. It's how you get popular and the other part is to take part in the splinterlands competitions where you can get large votes for creating good content. They do two a week and the votes are large. The have a share your battle challenge and a separate splinterlands promo challenge every week.
