The air in the funeral home felt thick, suffocating. From my corner of the room, I watched apprehensively as mourners approached the casket to say goodbye.
Until one man crouched down in front of me with a strange smile.
-Make the most of life, pursue your dreams, be happy,” he said in a deep voice, ”Live today as if you were going to die tomorrow.
I nodded, intimidated, as he stroked my head before retreating.
Moments later, my father forced me to approach the casket for one last look at the deceased.
I was petrified as the gaunt face and vacant gaze of the man inside the casket bore into me. It was the same man who had given me that cryptic advice, but he was dead!
Haunted by that experience, I tried to forget the grisly event. Until, decades later, I discovered something shocking:
The deceased had an identical twin brother!
Suddenly, it all made chilling sense. That day it had not been a ghost who had spoken to me... but the sinister twin of the man lying in the coffin, giving me his terrifying version of how to really “live”.
