Record hunt

I have some brothers in law that love to hunt.

They take it to the extreme. I have never been around such hunters. I mean these are guys that put in work year round to pull off these epic hunts and get the big prize animals.

They work to hunt.

They eat to hunt.

They train to hunt.

So much prep goes into these hunts and this year it paid off….big time.

I could not believe this Elk they got. One of the biggest horns I have seen in a long time and got sure the biggest I have ever seen in someone’s personal collection.

This is not the best picture but it’s the only one I grabbed on my phone.

One of the best parts of them getting this elk is just watching them sit around in lawn chair and stare at the horns. They absolutely love it.

Lots of respect for what they do. I am not a hunter and never will be but this is impressive.

Any enjoy hunting around here?

Damn that's a rack! My cousin-in-law took a 9 point off our property this weekend. My family are big hunters. I hunt as well, just not on as a ridiculous level as they do, lol.

Sweet. Yeah I kinda want to get into it maybe when my boys are older.

It's a great skill to learn and teach them. I have a buddy that his six year old daughter killed an 8 point buck at the beginning of the season with a .243, so it's never too early to learn, lol.

I found some Elk antlers once at a market in Brighton on the south coast of England: they were enormous! I had a ridiculous idea that I would buy them for my ordinary little house about 200 miles north (I'm not sure I would have got them through the door or that the wall/ceiling height was big enough to take them). Anyway, the whole thing was stymied because I couldn't see how to transport them. I could have tied them to a roof rack on my Ford Fiesta, I guess, but I suspect they would have tipped the car over.

I have no idea how they ended up in England or on a market stall. The aristocracy often bought and transported such things, perhaps they had been in an estate sale or a castle clearance.

I also thought about buying a stuffed bear about the same time. Fortunately, the transport problem saved me from myself.

I guess it's a very different vibe where you are 😁

yeah I see a lot of antlers around. I know some that just hunt for the fallen antlers in the spring after the animals shed them. Then they sell to dog food companies that turn them into natural dog chews.

Wow, that is really impressive! I know some people like that myself.

I love the dedication to their hobby.
