I opened my eyes and everything around me was different. My body felt strange, as if it didn't belong to me. I could see with astonishing clarity, smell smells and sounds that were alien to me before. Something in me had changed.
I remembered being swept away by a powerful current, after a huge spill of radioactive substances had contaminated the sea. Now, looking at my new limbs, I understood that the exposure had transformed me.
I watched in fascination as my fins turned into legs, allowing me to move out of the water. I wondered if this could be the beginning of an unprecedented evolutionary change.
Could this transformative process affecting me have been the catalyst that, millions of years ago, gave rise to the first land mammals?
With a mixture of fear and excitement, I explored this new world. Perhaps I was the missing link that connects us to a distant past, when life made that crucial leap from aquatic to terrestrial.
Perhaps my mutation is proof that the path of evolution is full of possibilities.
