Walking around Sherwood Forest in Nottingham, UK was like stepping back in time.
It is a popular tourist attraction as you are surrounded by a collection of ancient oak trees, which have been around for over 500 years.
The trees tower above you, their branches all gnarled. Even though it is a peaceful place, I can imagine it to be quite spooky at night.
We followed the Giant’s Trail which took us past the trees affectionately called Stumpy and the Bee Tree, named after the wild honey bee colony that is in its hollow trunk.
As we made our way through the forest, we came to my favourite spot where the Great Oak is. This tree was said to have been the hiding place for Robin Hood and his Merry Men when they were on the run from the Sheriff of Nottingham. The trunk was massive, with the branches now being held up by stanchions as it is so old. It could be up to around a 1,000 years old so it's no wonder it needs some assistance.
Sherwood Forest is not just a place of trees, but a place of legends and stories that had been passed down through generations. It is a place you can visit time after time.
Amazingly old forest! With so many old trees and lots of forgotten stories. Would love to be there too!

Around 1.5cm long. The main problem is that they munch on roots and any other cellulose material and farm fungus on said cellulose so they can be deadly to trees that aren't adapted to them. They don't thrive in cold soils so you are safe!
No, they definitely wouldn't like the climate over here.
