Good afternoon to you all and thanks for stopping by and supporting us.
The crew that make up the Hive-Woodpeckers
I have mentioned the 2 users of the Workshop before, but I have never really said much about them. I now have permission to introduce them a bit from their parents, so here they are:
K - Female, 8 years old, Autistic and ADHD. A quiet lass but coming out of her shell. Loves bright colours and rainbows. Which we have to fight every week against her urge to paint everything like a rainbow 🙃
J - Male,14 years old, just. I feel terrible that I've gotten his age wrong so many times that I finally wrote it down 😅 He is aware of this, as he is one of the users that I onboarded to Hive and he checks out these posts so I can't be lying to him haha.
He has also outdone me on Hive with his earnings, accomplishments and it annoys the hell out of me! He's accomplishing more in such a short space of time than I have in the past 30 odd years of my life!
Autistic, ADHD, Dyslexia and some issues with his Anger that we are working on, which so far have been fairly successful.
Both are great kids, very quiet and reserved at the beginning, but now their Attitudes Cough Personalities are coming through and they are both great.
A real joy to be around and to have working alongside me in the workshop.
Update on the goings on
Some more goodies added to the workshop this week. Some very large, heavy but beautiful clamps I managed to nab off of Marketplace for a steal. £30.00 for all 4 clamps was an offer I couldn't turn down.

2 F Clamps and 2 Sash clamps. The F clamps are 3 foot long, the Sash clamps are 3.5 foot and 4 foot long. They also way a hell of a lot. So if we don't use them in the end, and they get in the way, we can weigh them in and get a good return on these bad boys.
This weeks project
The Kids wanted to dive in with the new fancy wood, they have decided that a chopping board was the way to go for them. Now came the hard part, how big were they wanting it?
k wanted to do a huge one.... and I mean like 1m x 1m, because she really likes the colour of the sapele. Having to explain to her that it wouldn't work and how would we even get it out the door fell on deaf ears.
J on the other hand said 500x500mm would look good. I still thought might be a bit big so we mocked it up with some scraps.
After a few back and fourths between the 3 of us, we settled on 400x300mm. Reason being any bigger and it wouldn't fit on most worktops, and we would also run out of the nice bits of wood a lot quicker this way.
Then we realised that cutting several pieces to the exact lengths repeatedly wouldn't be easy.
This allowed for a great brainstorming session of how to make this work cleanly and efficiently. Again more back and forth with ideas and we designed a small Jig that we could attach alongside the Chop saw to allow repeated cuts of the required lengths without having to move or reset things up.
These are the times that I love, getting kids to work together and use their brains to come up with a solution is great. I try to have very little input in these sessions as I feel they work well together and are doing amazing together that it should be their accomplishments that I show to the world, not mine. I do usually have to break them up as they would go on for hours if I let them 😅 which would mean we run out of time, which is what usually happens.

Yes its not the neatest or prettiest Jig, but hell it works so damn well that I think we were all impressed!
The Mitre Saw is bolted onto a door that I had in the workshop that I cut up to use as a base. The thing is rigid and the wood reinforcing at both ends made it the perfect scrap piece to use.
Saved us wasting a good sheet of MDF.
Using one piece of 1x1' wood length the creation was born. Along with a few screws, bolts and washers.

The nail gun was great for putting 2 pins in to keep the wood together, and allowed the kids to drill and put the screws in with ease.

This piece of MDF was lying on the floor in the corner, which was actually the perfect size we needed!
No idea where it came from, but it was amazing that it was there. I love finding use for scrap wood, it shows that we need to be responsible with what we have, and the recycling aspect I really hope they understand and use in their lives.

This is the final setup.
Very crude and not pretty, but it's damn straight and perfect.
Couple of screws and pins in and bam it was done.
2 kids coming up with this was amazing, it's even reversible, so if they want to do different lengths, they can unscrew the support in the middle and turn the stop around. It's a great little tool and I'll admit it's been handy when I've been prepping wood for their sessions 😂
With the usual safety chats, deciding on what they want to do that day, the general chatter and decision making, that was all we had time for this week.
Next session we will be cutting the wood and preparing it, ready for the building of the chopping board, which is really damn exciting!
Other bits
Total spend today of £30.00.
Total spend since last post: £135.06
Hive sold to fund these: £338.21
All HBD has been sold now except 93HBD, which has been converted to Hive.
The fees, and conversion rate really has killed what we could get out of the DHF funds sadly. But the good it's done us has been outstanding. A huge thankyou to all who supported us.
The Liquid Hive we are planning to stake this for HP to grow the account more. Unless there is a big swing in Hive value which we can use those funds to buy more resources, then supporting Hive and other users is our plan.
I am also considering potentially supporting some other projects on Hive that provide an a small upvote service, with the idea that this may bring even more exposure to our posts.
The reason the Hive was sold is that we have ordered more equipment and resources to use in the workshop. With the way that the $ has been performing vs the £, it made sense to try and get the most money that we could.

I want to say a massive thankyou to everyone who has supported us so far, from words of encouragement to upvotes. You are helping change kids lives and it is an amazing thing to be a part of.
The coolest folk around making some kick ass Gifs for our pleasure and enjoyment. Along with their great humour, these are top rank Hive members for sure.
