Good morning to you all! I'm going to start by saying the new reward cards are fantastic. I love to use them! There was one that I used in this battle which was very good.
The last battle I shared was about Captain Katie. And I showed how effective one can use a Captain Katie. Since she is a snipe monster with bloodlust and magic attack; Captain Katie is one of the monsters that is sweet to use.
The fact that my opponent was a strategic man, Captain Katie was able to scatter his plan and deliver victory in the battle.
In this week's splinterlands social media challenge, I'm going to talk about this important rule which requires only monsters with ranged attack.
Whenever going the distance is given in a battle, I have encounter players using the following:
+1 addition of ranged attack to friendly monsters: all the time I have paired up with players, the majority of the players used monsters and summoners that give +1 to friendly monsters. I could not remember the battle, it was very hard to destroy his/her monsters. This was because my opponent used this kind of strategy against me in a battle. Example of such a summoner is General Sloan.
All enemy ranged attack units have -1 Range attack: since players understand splinterlands rule; they tend to use a monster or summoner with this ability when such a rule is given.
For instance, there was a day I encounter this rule in a battle; my opponent knew that I would used a monster that gave all friendly monsters +1 ranged attack. He/she used a monster and summoner that remove -1 from opponent monsters.
That was how -2 ranged attack was removed from all my monsters.
Summoner and Monsters with close range ability:
Players often used summoners and monsters with close ranged ability. That was the reason my opponents used monsters with close range ability.
Therefore, if a player uses a summoner with close range attack: it simply means all the ranged monsters can attack in the first position.
Two Deadliest Summoners to fight Going The Distance
Fernheart
Fernheart is one of the deadliest summoner's to deal with when going the distance is given in a battle This is because all range abilities have the ability to attack in the first position of the battle.
The day I came across the summoner in a battle, that was the day I knew the important of Fernheart
Lir Deepswimmer
One of the abilities that is very useful when going the distance is given is the return fire. Knowing fully well that, returns 50% of damage to an attacker when hit by a ranged attack. Well all know that this summoner is very good when going the distance is given.
One of the examples was when I used level 1 of Lir Deepswimmer to defeat a player of level 4.
By the time 3 monsters were eliminated from my lineup, all my opponent's monsters were eliminated in the battle. That is to tell you how important Lir Deep water is during the going distance battle.
🍭Rule of the battle🍭
Silence Summoner
Summoners give no stats buffs or debuffs and neither grant nor use abilities.
This rule nullified all the abilities of summoners..For instance, if I used General Sloan in this battle instead of Obsidian, there would not be addition of ranged attack to friendly monsters.
Therefore, that was the reason I used monsters with the highest level, which gave me the opportunity to use monsters with higher levels.
Going the Distance
You can only summon units with ranged attack.
When this rule is included in a battle, it simply means only monsters with ranged attack can be available; that was the reason all the monsters available were ranged attack monsters.
Equal Opportunity
All units have opportunity (target the enemy with the least health).
This is the reason I brought 2 Martyr monsters in this battle; they are the monsters with the least health.

Looking at this battle I shared above, in order to win the battle I used 2 Martyr monsters so that adjacent monsters would increase stats.
Arrangement of Monsters
Earth Elemental
Splinter: Earth 🌏🌏🌏
Level:4 ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Ability: 🏥Heal
Speed: 2⚡⚡
Health: 6 ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Attack: Range
Mana: 3 ♂️♂️♂️
The only reason I used Earth Elemental was the heal ability. I knew it could not attack in the first position because I did not use Fernheart summoner. I did not have the summoner.
The strategy could not allow the opponent to eliminate Earth Elemental in the battle.
Venari Marksrat
Splinter: Neutral
Level: 2⭐⭐
Ability: Martyr
Speed: 1⚡
Health: 3 ❤️❤️❤️
Attack: Range
Mana: 3 ♂️♂️♂️
Venari Markrast was the monster with the least health and that was the reason I placed it in-between the Earth Elemental and Drybone Raider.
When Venari Markstrat was eliminated, the stats of Drybone Raider and Earth Elemental increased.
Venari Marksrat was the first monster eliminated in this lineup.
Drybone Raider
Splinter: Neutral
Level: 2⭐⭐
Ability: Double Strike and Shatter
Speed: 2⚡⚡
Health: 7 ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Armor: 3 🪖🪖🪖
Attack: Melee and Range
Mana: 12 ♂️♂️♂️♂️♂️♂️♂️♂️♂️♂️♂️♂️
The moment Venari Marksrat was eliminated, the stats of Drybone Raider (armor, speed, health, ranged and melee attack).
Drybone Raider abilities- double strike damaged monsters 12 units from this lineup.
It destroyed Gargoya Devil Goblin Tower in the first round.
The double damage was the main reason used Drybone Raider in this battle.
Fungus Flinger
Splinter: Earth 🌏🌏🌏
Level: 6 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Ability: Martyr and Blind
Speed: 2⚡⚡
Health: 4 ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Attack: Range
Mana: 4 ♂️♂️♂️♂️
Another monster that was very necessary for me in this battle. Fungus Flinger was eliminated in the second round of this battle, and the stats of Drybone Raider increased. At this moment, Drybone Raider could damage 16 units at a round. It destroyed Vampiric and Venari Seedsmith in the second round.
And also damaged the armor of Quilliun Legionary.
At the third round of the battle, which was the final round, only the Drybone Raider attacked. It eliminated the Quilliun Legionary and Gomson Bomber.
War Chaang
Splinter: Neutral
Level: 1⭐
Ability: Retaliate
Speed: 3⚡⚡⚡
Health: 8 ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Attack: Melee and Range
Mana: 7 ♂️♂️♂️♂️♂️♂️♂️
The melee and Ranged attack was very important in this lineup. War Chaang was the first monster to attack in my lineup; after the Martyr monsters were eliminated, Drybone Raider became the first monster to attack in my lineup.
War Chaang was damaged by the thorn ability of a
Quilliun Legionary
Splinter: Earth
Level: 1⭐
Ability: Close Range
Speed: 2⚡⚡
Health: 8 ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Armor: 1 🪖
Attack: Range
Mana: 8 ♂️♂️♂️♂️♂️♂️♂️♂️
Quilliun Legionary was the last monster in my lineup and I knew that even though only this monster was left in my lineup, it would attack in the first position.
In conclusion, the moment I saw equal opportunity, I used two martyr monsters to increase the stats of Drybone Raider.
And my strategy was to increase the melee and range of Drybone Raider. The moment it was increased, 16 units were damaged. That was the reason the battle was very quick.
Only the two monsters I desired to be destroyed (Venari Marksrat and Fungus Flinger) were destroyed in my lineup.
This strategy is the best for this kind of battle; though if there was no opportunity rule I would have used Fungus Flinger as the first monster.
Therefore, the rule, monster and summoner determine the best position for a monster.
