Hello everyone!
Do you know cherries very well?
Do you like them?
Do you eat them often whenever their season comes?
This past Monday in the afternoon, I received a call from a friend saying she would stop by at my workplace on her way home from a mini-journey. It was more of an impromptu visit, and also, this is someone I had been wanting to have around. While we were still talking, I asked her about her favorite fruits so I could buy some for her because I didn’t want to give her food or a drink—I wanted her to have fruit. She answered and said, “Cherry.”
“Cherry!” I exclaimed because this is one fruit that requires connections to find a really tasty one. That’s what I told her, and she burst into laughter.
But that’s the truth! This fruit is very hard to come across in a truly delicious form. The ones sold along the roadside are not always tasty. For someone like me who has tasted the very sweet varieties, I don’t enjoy it when I come across one that isn’t.
I went on to buy the cherries. I bought a large quantity of them, along with other fruits like pineapple, watermelon, and apples. I didn’t taste the cherries right away—I waited for her so we could share and taste them together.
When she arrived, I brought out the fruits. We took the cherries first, and when I had a bite, I felt like I had been slapped on the cheek, while she was busy licking hers with excitement.
“Is that one not slappy to you?” I asked her, looking surprised.
“No, this is sweet. If yours is not sweet, it means they are of different kinds,” she said, continuing to enjoy it.
I didn’t believe her. The one I ate and the one she ate were from the same tree and not tasty. She was able to enjoy it because she didn’t know how sweet some cherries could be. She’s a lady brought up in town, where most of the cherries they get to taste are from trees that are not very sweet. So, she doesn’t know any better.
Let me tell you—the sweet ones don’t leave the boundary of the village. They are bought straight off the tree before they even get a chance to be taken elsewhere.
Thanks for reading.
Photos are mine
Is this the real cherry or a local variety? I never came across this fruit, looks exquisite.
Ohhhh!
I didn't know where are many types of it. This is the type we are familiar with in Nigeria.
Very local and grown mostly in rural areas.
Bros k, it is not cherry but African star apple or udala or agbalumo.
You want to confuse oyinbo with cherry up and down no 😂😂😂.
I enjoy all kinds of agbalumo no matter the taste😁
Hahahahah!
Omo! No wonder one lady was asking me if that's Cherry.
Wahala 😂

I love agbalumo so much.
Of course, the sweet ones oo
