Remote and onsite jobs;finding the right work-life balance.

The idea of working from home, wearing my whatever, not on the suit thing or corporate wears, not being in haste of anything, or various queries, sipping tea, while the outside world are dealing with traffic, noise and all sounds more like a dream. The temptation of escaping Lagos traffic, the heat and the constant power outages is strong. For remote work, they do promise freedom, flexibility, and the chance to work on my own time. But come to think of it, the reality is way more complex than I originally imagined.

At first, the freedom made me excited. I could literally work from anywhere as long as I have an internet connection, either it is a quiet cafe or even my room. The days flowed into each other and sooner than I least expected the excitement wore off. My home, once a sanctuary suddenly became my office, and the lines between work and personal life became unclear. I am constantly working, can't really switch off. And there are the distractions too, the TV, the Ps4, the urge to quickly take a nap all these and more makes it kind of hard to focus.

Also, talking about human interactions, the office banter, the various meetings, the fights, the rumblings and murmurings, the various clashes, the chats, the impromptu meetings and assessment, the laughter and more were all the things I took for granted before. I must tell you, working remotely can make you isolated, theres the casual conversations that do spark new ideas, there's the newbie you all want to show you superior...

While also on the other hand, there are advantages/benefits to remote work, the fact that you have control over your schedule, that I can manage and n save time, the fact that I won't be spending money on transportation.

To me, I believe the best one is the mixed type. A mix of remote work and office(onsite) job, would make me enjoy the benefits of working from home while also benefiting from the social interaction and collaboration that comes with being in the office, finding the right balance, one that could actually work and make you have a touch of it both, a per time office work that you only have to go few days in each week and a remote work that helps feel good at home won't be a bad one.

And as technology continues to evolve, I believe we will have much more options for how and where we work. The future should be one with a blend of both, where your employer expects you to only show up in the office on few days and do other works remotely. We need key to find a system that allows for productivity, allows for happiness, makes us fulfilled both personally and professionally and also filled with advantages/benefits..Even that will help and improve health...since health they say is wealth.
