Are You Using Social Media, or Is It Using You?

We live in a time where social media is our daily companion. We share every detail on social media, peeking into the lives of others. From new clothes, vacation photos, favorite food pictures to our creative works, it is showcased here. And the interesting thing is, we can watch all this live. Social media is not just a part of our daily lives, it has become a habit. We pick up our phones as soon as we wake up, check notifications, and are interested in knowing about the lives of others.

But behind this bright world of social media there is a dark side. We often use these platforms in a way that destroys our time, peace of mind, and potential. The most interesting thing is that we ourselves do not understand when and why we became so addicted to it.

Recently I went to my sister's house. Seeing her children there, it seemed that social media is now more important than their real lives. I was shocked by her addiction to social media. Only reels and videos are playing on their phones all the time. The videos they watch are videos of cleaning toilets, meaningless dramas, or videos of local people marketing—all things that do not have any positive impact on their lives.

I was also surprised to hear that he will also start creating content. His content will be videos of him going to school, videos of what he does at home.

I suggested to him that if he wants to create that content, it would be better to work with AI in the most popular competition currently. But the sad thing is that AI does not know that. I was surprised to hear that. At this time, he does not know what AI is. A friend was sitting next to him. He knows what AI is. Yes, he doesn't know in detail, but he has a general idea about AI. He is even involved in various groups for his studies. His Facebook videos are also similar, various new creation type videos. However, I gave them an idea about Chat GPT.

There is no content that you cannot find on these platforms. There is content here for people of all ages and all interests. The social media algorithm works in such a way that the type of content you view or search for the most will be shown to you more. If you see unnecessary content, your feed will also become like that. And if you keep looking for something meaningful and educational, your feed will also become a place of learning and improvement. Now the question is, why are we so addicted to social media? The main reason for this is that social media increases the flow of the pleasurable chemical dopamine in our brain. Every like, comment, and share makes our mind happy and makes us want to spend more time here. But unknowingly, we are wasting time, depriving ourselves of knowledge, and losing creativity.

When we use social media, we have two paths in front of us, one where we waste time, the other where we learn, be creative, and improve ourselves. But most of the time we choose the first path. And so social media is destroying our lives instead of changing them.

Don't see social media only as a platform for entertainment. It is a vast library, with an infinite wealth of knowledge. Here you can learn new skills, learn about the latest technology news from the world, and showcase your creative works to the world. How much of the time we spend on social media is improving our lives? Are our habits enhancing our skills, or destroying our potential?

Find the answers to these questions. Use social media in a way that benefits you and the people around you. Remember, social media should be our helper, not our slave.
