Hey everyone and welcome back to my Splinterlands blog, it's a Thursday today, the day on which most weeks the new Social Media Challenge drops, the theme for this week is the same as last weeks:

Playing ranked matches in Modern with my Chaos Legion deck hasn't been easy at all, my win rate is just below 50% 😅

The rewards when I do win however are pretty nice, about 3.5 - 4 SPS for a win and 350 glint, I think it was higher in the previous season, so maybe more players are active now.

The competition is fierce and I see mostly Chaos Legion decks because it's the only affordable way to play in higher leagues at the moment, this also raises the question what I'm going to do after Chaos Legion rotates out of modern, I'll make a separate post about this topic soon, and it won't happen until summer next year hopefully so we'll cross that bridge when we get to it, one problem at a time! 😁

I think the way the new cards are made, is with a slight upward power level in every new set, so that the new set will always be attractive to buy for players over the older sets, the new legendary Rebellion summoners are awesome but simply out of my reach, the best of the set I think is Eternal Tofu, it's current price is around $45 - 50 per BCX, or almost $600 for a max copy, in comparison - legendary Chaos Legion summoners like Possibilus and Immortalis are selling for about $27 for a max copy. 😅

So, naturally when I meet a player with a nice Rebellion deck in my ranked battles, I usually get my ass kicked hard, I was expecting the same in the battle I want to share you with for this post, Tofu is just OP, Thorns on it's own is very strong, add Triage and it's OP against melee teams.

The battle I want to share for this post is a 41 mana Modern League what doesn't kill you / Aimless / Super Sneak battle with all splinters available to be chosen from, too many options to make a counter team against so best to make the best possible team for this ruleset combination with my deck - the danger with Super Sneak is many opponents like to not go the heavy melee / sneak way but surprise you with a heavy magic team, so, with Super Sneak, always bring some kind of magic protection, just a tip 😀

First look at the battlefield:

So, this was one of these 'O shit' moments.. seeing a Tofu as my opponent, and even a MAX one! To be honest I just skipped the battle to get on with it, but sometimes splinterlands surprises even experienced players!
It's almost a full magic team, so my Baakjira is a nice counter but the scattershot ruins that, and the Thorns are a nice counter against my melee team...

My Line-Up:

  • Summoner: Quix the Devious - reason: More available cards to pick from.
  • First position: Baakjira - reason: Magic protection.
  • Second position: Kulu Mastermind - reason: Weapons trainer.
  • Third position: Noa the Just - reason: Rust, fast and evasive.
  • Fourth position: Xenith Monk - reason: This was my filler card, self heal with magic protection.
  • Fifth position: Void Dragon - reason: Fast and evasive.
  • Sixth position: Diemon Shark - reason: High damage, retaliate.

The Battle:

Round 1: Well, one thing my opponent didn't think about is the thorns would enrage my entire team, so they're not doing massive damage, Iziar with it's void but un-shielded is going to get killed fast like this! Half of my team has void.... hmmm....

image.png

Round 2: With Iziar down, that's one less problem to worry about, two others are low HP, the Crystalsmith will get deleted before it can fire, Peryton is fast and evasive though...

image.png

Round 3: Three misses on Peryton... Baakjira is just out-healing Grimbardun's damage so that's nice.

image.png

Round 4: Whoah! Suddenly things got crazy, one hit from Kulu Mastermind was enough to delete Peryton and Pelacor Conjurer was hit hard by the rest of my team. Things got so fast I was a bit too late with my screenshot.

image.png

Round 5: Right at the start of round 5, Aves got killed as well, I didn't expect this outcome at all, my full team is still alive! Grimbardun is very good, but I'm sure he can't handle an entire team. 😁

image.png

Round 6: Kulu Mastermind made the killing blow, shielded it received only half damage on the thorns leaving my entire team standing at the end of this battle, amazing outcome!

A well deserved 4 SPS and 368 glint for this win!

You can watch the battle unfold for yourself here.
