DON'T FEEL OFFENDED, DIFFERENT PEOPLE EXPRESS GRATITUDE IN DIFFERENT WAYS

Hello everyone and welcome to my blog at this hour. It can be difficult to come to terms with the fact that you are being taken for granted by people around you. It is not easy to put the house in order, to wake up as early as possible to make dinner, helping a friend to arrange her stuffs in her new apartment could be a whole lot as well, requiring you to make use of so much energy. And when you have done all these and more, yet you don't get appreciated, it can be very tough to handle. Well, sit back, relax and enjoy all that I have packaged for your reading pleasure.

Most people have been in a situation where they feel like their actions have gone unnoticed and unappreciated because the other party didn't outrightly come out to say "Thank You" or "You've done a good job" and so on. I'm a person that take note of details so much and I feel bad when someone doesn't appreciate my little effortt, no matter how little it seems. Most times, when a person constantly do not appreciate your efforts it might lead to feeling of anger towards them. There are times when I get angry for giving a driver access to the road when others have been denying him and he didn't deem it fit to just wave his hand or whisper a thank you.

However, the feeling of anger towards people who seem not to appreciate your efforts can be reduced when you understand that not everyone express their appreciation through words. There are several ways of indirectly showing gratitude for the good deeds you've done for someone. Your spouse may express their gratitude through a kiss or hug without saying the "thank you" that you may want to hear. Also, a colleague at work whom you helped with something in the office may decide to take you out for lunch or paying for your lunch as a way of appreciation. So, it's a good time to reflect on the people around you and how some of them have been nice to you that you didn't pay attention to the fact that they may be expressing their gratitude.

Back then in the University, during a particular session, it was a rainy season and most times when I wash I'm not always home to pack them in when the rain starts but my roommate is always around to help me. This happened for quite a while and probably due to our closeness or something I do not outrightly appreciate him. However, I always ensure that I make dinner for us before he returns back from school without even asking what we are going to cook or how we're going to contribute towards the meal. This was my little way of appreciating his efforts for not allow my clothes to get messed up in the rain.

In addition, if you feel like people are beginning to take you for granted then you must stop to be a people pleaser. A people pleaser is that person that will never say "NO". The more you do for people without being appreciated and you do not complain, the more they will keep asking for more. Therefore it may be a good idea to say "no", perhaps it will let them realize that you can not always be available to cater for their needs. Even though it might be difficult for you to decline a request for a favor if you have been saying "yes" to people's needs for a long time.

Well, it feels a lot like this most of the time with my current situation. But I learned how to cope and understand the very little things that make me feel this way.

However, the feeling of anger towards people who seem not to appreciate your efforts can be reduced when you understand that not everyone express their appreciation through words.

And one of the things I also knew, was not to expect anyting in return. You reduce the time spent wondering and waiting for something to come up with that kind of mindset. Of course, it could be difficult to get used to such behavior, but I think it's worth learning.

Thanks for your comment @imawreader ❤️
