Restoring my first cold porcelain piece

Today, we are going to try to restore my first cold porcelain piece, which I made in 2023 and has been sitting in a corner ever since because the result was far from what I had hoped would be ideal.

Well, since it was my first piece, I didn't have high expectations, but I also didn't expect it to turn out so bad. Cold porcelain also taught me that what you need most is patience because, although it seems easy to shape things, the reality is exactly the opposite – it’s very difficult. It requires a lot of calm, dedication, and patience.

But going back to my piece, I made it two years ago, never sanded it, barely finished painting it, and left it abandoned in a corner. So this time, I decided to try and save it.

I sanded the entire piece and then decided to change the color. Initially, it had a seafoam green tone, and I realized that this green was one of the things that bothered me the most about it. I really didn’t like that color. So, I applied a navy blue bitumen paint and then started adding some designs using the paints I had at home. I used acrylic paint and PVA paint. For these designs, I painted some flowers, some stripes, and a few other small details.

I really loved the result, and now it feels like this piece has been brought to life. It lit up, and it also brightened up my decor. To finish it off, I added a candle that I already had, which I had also painted with some little roses.

I know that the result is still not excellent, and it’s still a bit crooked, although the sanding step helped a lot to smooth out the more problematic areas. But I decided to accept the imperfection, and I like to think that this was a work with a more organic result, just like all handmade creations. After all, sometimes the best thing is to find joy in imperfection.

And that was the result! I hope you like it. See you next time. Bye!
