Same here. And I thought they were completely extinct, especially when the mechanics at the Canadian bike shop treated one that turned up there like a relic from times long past. Kinda like a curiosity, but more fit for a museum than for a bike you would actually be using.

But here in Berlin... hahaha, they said that if mine was completely shot, they had a whole drawer full of dynamos for the left side, another drawer for the right side, a huge pile of other dynamos they said that "needed work", plus the option of buying a brand new one if all else failed. So apparently dynamos are still kicking around.

Still, these days hub generators seem to be all the rage. Here in Berlin some company offers to put a hub generator into your front wheel, and as their distinguishing mark they also add an ugly blue tire to it. You can see them rolling around all over the city. That's actually something I would like to put into my touring bike when I continue my journey across Mexico (and on towards South America), not so much for lights, but for charging a power bank for my phone, speakers, etc.
