RE: Old-School Dutch Bike in Berlin - My Dear Scholly!

30 years to legalize something? Holy shit that's Brazil's standard.

I must say that Sparta is one hell of a mainly name for a bicycle. I didn't know hub shifters were that old (70's). I like that 'ornament' on the front fender, looks classy.

Sort:

As far as I know hug gears go back to the 19th century, though I could be wrong.

You have to give credit to the rainbow factory for actually becoming legalized and not getting a grand eviction after operating for 30 years. I have heard about squats where that is exactly what happened. And you can imagine how well working something must be after that long.

Yeah, that ornament is pretty kick-ass, right? I was just discussing with a friend what you would call that. A head fin maybe? Since a tail fin would be on the rear.

Head fin sounds cool. Cars used to have hood ornaments, also called mascots. It's sad they aren't a thing anymore.. maybe Jaguar still uses them. Mercedez dithed the classic arrow. That makes me think, is that bicycle 70's or way older?

Esit: the brand Sparta started in 1917! Holy shit. We gotta find about that bike.

Hahaha, I know, man! I've been doing searches like crazy, and I even found a couple of bikes that look almost like mine. But nothing definite. But the 70's sound pretty correct. I mean, it's brown. Everything used to be brown in the 70's. And beige, and orange, and ocher, with a dash of red and yellow mixed in.

Yeah, and ships used to have a figurehead under the bowsprit!
