More than just cycling

Hello over here... how are cyclists getting up today?

Havana's Vedado neighbourhood

I came to tell you a little bit about my day yesterday when I decided to pedal to solve some pending issues.

The first thing I did was to go to my ex-job to pick up my employment file. Finally the people in charge of organising all the information had it ready and when I called to find out how much longer it would take, they told me that I could come by any day to pick it up.

I wasted no time...

Once there, I emptied my locker and donated some books I had to the journalism school which is right next to the building where I used to work.

Not always, but I often use Strava to at least know how far I ride my bikes. It doesn't work very well for me, as it's paid and I have the free version (I think), or maybe I forget to pause it when I stop and that's why the data is not correct. For example, I have noticed that the average speed decreases.

Maybe later on I'll put a cyclocomputer on the road bike, although the best ones are quite expensive here.

Of course, there are cheaper ones but I don't know if they are reliable.

Afterwards I went to the Havana neighbourhood of Vedado and wandered around a few places, taking photos, strolling around, taking advantage of the fact that I am unemployed now... Lol. Well, it's not quite like that, I'm still doing my extra jobs that I had before I applied to leave that government employment.

In yesterday's post I showed some pictures taken with my Panasonic Lumix G10 camera.

This one I took with my mobile phone right in front of a hamburger spot, as I was already hungry at that time. I hadn't had lunch... I had only had a more or less decent breakfast when I left home.

I know the burgers and shakes there are good because I've been there before, and note that the smell at the entrance makes you smile. 👀

But I didn't go into that place. I had no way to put my bike near me and I preferred not to risk it. So I decided to cycle to the Malecón. I wanted to have a close encounter with the sea... and along the way I found a place, near the Paseo Avenue and the Hotel Cohiba.

I was struck by the fact that it is a place under construction but they have a cafeteria where they offer croquettes, pizzas and drinks. I went in.

I thought there was no stopping these people. Surely in the future this will look different, but in the meantime they build and sell at the same time. It seemed good to me and also because I could have my bike next to me.

I ordered a pizza... usually that's what I prefer to eat if I get hungry on the street. I had a juice in my backpack and this time it wasn't so frozen that I couldn't drink it.

In addition to my two-wheeled friend, I was accompanied by the Jägermeister logo at this lunch. But I've only just discovered that now... I was curious until now what that image could be.

I thought that as soon as I finished eating, as well as going to see the sea, I could try to get a little something tasty for my cat Yin.

It turns out that the poor guy has been convalescing for two days. I don't know what could have happened to him.

I don't know how to deal with these things because it's a cat that suddenly appeared in my house. I have already told you here, in Hive, his story and how our relationship has improved... it is a stray cat.

YIN 👈

As you can see, I helped him.

And I was also able to get these sardines? at a fishing base. They sold me about two and a half pounds for 500 CUP ( US$1.50).

Yin had a nice dinner last night. And he looks better already. That amount of fish I bought gave me enough to prepare a few packets of food that I think will last him until the middle of next month. I kept the fisherman's contact to go and get more later.

This was the trip back home. So, I covered almost 22 km yesterday.

I found this graffiti going up 24th Street towards the 23rd.

Finally, I want to share with you this view from 24th Street, above the Linea Avenue tunnel.

Look forward to more images and stories from this ride. It was really quite entertaining and especially on the Malecón part, also known as the giant sofa of Havana.

I haven't been as active as I would have liked on Hive. Changed of new job? I thought government jobs are normally more stable even in the worst economies

Yes, I made that decision about two months ago. The salary there is less than US$15 a month... here in Hive I said so, yes. 30 eggs cost more than half of that salary in Cuba. 😔

I'm not a photographer, but I like taking photos. hehe.. so there's a new group for Hive photographers on discord..

btw, you left your ex-job, so you have a new one now?
or you would just relax and spend time cycling around the town.

I'm taking my time... I applied for a job as a community manager and I'm waiting. Someone offered me a job as a bicycle messenger but that doesn't suit me because of the timetable. I don't know... the truth is that I don't want to accept jobs for miserable salaries.
I feel that my life is about to take a complete turn.

Good morning @nanixxx, you see I'm fine, thanks for asking. I'm reassured reading that YIN's health is improving. And thanks for the walk, did the sea tell you anything?

Feliz fin de semana.

☺️🤗 es de madrugada todavía 🥱... Gracias. Y sí, me dijo cosas.

Muy bien, seguro que te dijo cosas bonitas. Hasta luego.

¡Buenos días! 😂

Cuando despierte habrá olas.

😃 Descansa. Hasta luego!

Nice ride!
I really like the last photo. Beautiful combination of colours!

Thank you. Yes, it was a nice ride, indeed.
That picture looks nice. It just happened unexpectedly. The car appeared just as I was trying to take it to show the buildings in the background.

Oh God! Poor little Yin.... if it's just scratches and he didn't do anything else just give him time... I advise you to get him neutered. It will improve his quality of life and how long his life is.... Patience to cure him...

I love seeing the pictures of the tour and good thing the juice wasn't frozen... delicious pizza!

Well, I did get a scratch because obviously he was in pain while I was cleaning his wound. But I understand and so I just washed my wound and moved on. There are wounds that hurt more.... And we also moved on.
I think I'll have to find a vet to have him neutered. But it's complicated because I don't know anyone who comes to the house and taking Yin to a clinic is quite complicated, as he is not very easy to handle.

Thank you my friend for always being by my side. Have a hug and rest. See you tomorrow.

When they are neutered, they become calmer, they don't fight so much and ... you become calmer too.... hug!

Havana never ceases to amaze me, it is so photogenic. that pizza made my mouth water

Yes, photogenic, and each neighbourhood very particular.
The pizza is advertised there as Cuban pizza and is quite cheap ($US 0.75), thin and tasted very good, with lots of cheese.

thin pizza is the best,
