The day I visited three parks

in Cycling16 hours ago (edited)

It was nothing planned at all, I just flowed. By mid-morning I felt like exercising on my road bike, because it was a day off 🤣, the day after the 505th Anniversary of our city, and since very early in the morning, it had been taken over by the runners of one of the most colorful races held here, MARABANA... but this time there was something different: I didn't get up early to cover this event as a photojournalist.

$1

A beautiful sunday, indeeed, when I woke up early but with no pressure. I had my coffee, meditated, did my morning affirmations, thanked the Universe, attended a meeting of black birds that had some excitement. Lol. Filmed them. I took a bath (it is a rule always before I go out), from my cycling clothes drawer I chose this Marabana T-shirt, prepared an snack, and here the clock struck 1:30 pm.

Ready to go.

My neighbour informed me that he had seen the runners because had to do some errands at the time the event was taking place, and was surprised not to see me at these functions. I gave him my mobile phone and asked him nicely to take this picture of me. ‘Change is what is always happening in life,’ I said, and we both laughed.

Then I cycled all the way down 100th Avenue to 51st Avenue, then I looked for 31st Avenue and went down 60th Street towards the sea.

I was trying to catch up with a woman on an electric motorbike with a little dog on her back. What happened was that at a traffic light I had the opportunity to take a picture of them and... I got tangled up. Nothing, they turned green and she took off like a rocket. This made me laugh... until I gave up and found the first park.

It's spacious, shady and I found it quite busy. I enjoyed being there for a while, feeling the fresh air of our incipient winter season... and set out to eat my snack.

With some disappointment I discovered that the papaya juice I had prepared was still very frozen, so I had no choice but to turn to the water I carry on my bike.

I resumed my route and went to the Cultural Centre, which I had wanted to visit for a long time because its architecture always attracts my attention. It was closed. However, there was a woman there and she explained to me that this building was a church.

$1$1$1

The Cultural Center is named Félix Pita Rodríguez, after the Cuban writer, poet, journalist and literary critic. And look what a surprise I got, because those murals are by an artist that I have already brought to Hive: Máisel López.

$1

The woman let me take this photo from the glass door and I could see that in the background there is another mural as well as a piano. I also read posters advertising art workshops for children and youth.

The sun was a bit strong and facing the front, so it was a difficult to take these photos. On the other hand, remember that I am accompanied by my bike and I can't take my eyes off it or place it far away from me. If I linger too long, I can lose it.

$1

I love this shot.

$1

These were the colours... it was beautiful sunshine out there in the tall grass and I was really enjoying every bit of the ride.

$1

Further down I found this other church and a field with such exercise equipment.

If you have Strava here you can see the route. It was 28.4 km that day.

The next thing to do was to cycle along 3rd Street until reaching the tunnel that connects the municipalities of Playa and Vedado on 5th Avenue. Cyclists are not allowed on 5th Avenue, as it is a fast road.

$1

In a previous post I shared some photos of this bike ride, because I saw that they were perfect for the idea I wanted to convey. If you missed it, you can take a look here: And yet... you must never surrender.

By the way, those scavenger birds looked even stranger in that photo. It was flying over the famous Green House... some say it's haunted.

$1

Already on Línea and D Street I stopped at this other park, which also has a church, to see if by any chance the juice was drinkable.

$1

Forget it! Hahaha... it was colder than... forget it.

😀

Look how beautiful everything is, nani, don't stress...

I wanted to go to the boardwalk to cycle a bit and record the route, but it was very windy. Too much... I almost got swept away, seriously. Finally I ended up filming a bit from 23 and 26 in Vedado to the Pando Ferrer Hospital in Marianao. But you'll see it in the video at the end.

So, I gave up pedalling along the Malecón and found something very cool... but I repeat, you must see the video.

Look what a cool house.

$1

And that picture was taken at Line and L. Here is what my slanted eyes saw.

$1

No, not that... the other thing I told you is in the video. Hahaha... I'm already a bit exhausted. The connection is not good enough for so many photos and videos, but I make the effort so that you enjoy this walk as much as I do.

That big building you see there is the Focsa, considered one of the seven wonders of Cuban civil engineering.

$1

I had not yet moved from that place... but I had just decided that I would go and buy a pizza and eat it in another park.

$1

So I went to a cafeteria on Paseo Avenue and ordered a pizza to go.

$1

Bianchi or La Potranca 😂 and I cycled to the park where this famous musician always waits. Do you know him? Only he's not wearing his trademark glasses.

You know what I thought of... songs.

I looked at the clock and it was almost 5pm. On these days when it gets dark earlier I can't afford the luxury of being caught out at night on a bike.

$1

I occupied that bench... I was still thinking about songs and enjoying my pizza.

$1

The juice was still frozen. 😒 More water.

It was time to start the return journey. This park is also very lively, both for the tourists who come down there to admire the Beatles' leader and for the number of people who frequent it to rest, read, play, walk their pets and many children ride their bikes there.

I don't really feel any fatigue on these bike rides anymore. At first it was tiring... but I'm used to it now and I must say that this bike is very light and it helps.

Now I invite you to watch the video. 😁 I love to cycle and show you the life of my city.

Almost, almost 😴. I like the photo of the second church, meeting Máisel López again made me excited.... And the trip has been very (very) fun. It's time to say goodbye to the day (and better with a smile).

Thanks @nanixxx.

😇 I like you to take a smile to bed with you. Get some rest. 👋

Oh nanixxx!!!, makes me want to buy a bike even if it's an old Chinese one and do those kind of excursions ....I don't know if I have the energy in these rusty legs but it sounds great...the rest will be nothing unplanned 😅 as you rightly say, the hard part will be getting your beautiful shots, especially in black and white...phenomenal!
What about the papaya juice, did it come home intact? I was already drooling to drink it...😂 after that tasty pizza.

Then they won't leave Jhon Lennon alone with his glasses...😐

Havana has a history in every corner, as many churches and cultural centers as grains of sand in the sea...I can't wait to go for a walk and "see things"...😅

Nice evening @nanixxx.

I drank the papaya juice after I got home and parked the bike. 😄 Not all at once, because still had ice in it.
This pedalling exercise is very complete. Maybe the rusty legs need a bit of movement? Hahaha.
Las fotos esas no son nada del otro jueves... 😅 pero gracias. 😉🤗
Es muy entretenido esto de pasear en bicicleta, sí, y un alivio para ciertos dolores.
There was a man looking after Lennon. I didn't ask him if he happened to be in charge of putting on and taking off his glasses? Lol. I was already very hungry. A cyclist's hunger is hellish. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Very nice walk through Havana, I was once in that park with you, it is beautiful, and they call it John Lennon's park, how bad it is that he has glasses. Havana is beautiful at any time of the day, and your photos are spectacular. Beautiful Thursday with already winter air.😘

Desperté tempranito. Ojalá tuviera quien me acompañara para retratar el amanecer... 😔

🌞 Buenos días, Mamani.

Great ride out ........BUT........

where has mr Hedgehog gone????

I haven't been using it these days, surely he misses me. Lol.

😂 I was thinking of switching to a more serious helmet, although I'm not really convinced because Mr. Hedgehog's vibe is great.

Yup, I love Mr hedgehog lol,

Sending love 😃

Reverse video, that's original hahaha I love it!

This image... inspiring! It reminds me of things I see... but the image of the greenhouse is magical and the one of the door. Those are my three favourites, apart from the parks haha
