Cycling has always been a cherished part of my life. I can't reminisce on my childhood memories without involving cycling, and this is why I look forward to passing them on to my next generation, just as they were passed down to me.
My older son has been craving to learn how to ride a bicycle, and his interest has grown in the past three months. At home, I do not have a bicycle for him yet, but he has been seeing his friends riding along and couldn't stop asking for one. I had wanted to buy one for him when he was 4 years old, but he later developed a health challenge that lingered and thus made me forget about the bicycle. Now that he is fit, he started showing interest again, especially when I told him and his siblings stories of my childhood cycling experience—how fun and exciting it was riding with other kids in the field, running errands with it, and even participating in cycling competitions those days.
We had the opportunity to visit my friend late in the evening last weekend. On reaching there, we saw her kids and other kids in the compound riding bicycles. It was so fun to watch, and immediately my first son grabbed a bicycle from one of the children, but unfortunately, he couldn't ride it. I am not surprised he couldn't ride it because I haven't taught him before, but I was surprised to see him so scared of rolling the wheels. Rolling the two wheels simultaneously is a big challenge to him; he is so scared and loses balance when he tries to do so. Oh my gosh, this is someone who has literally cried twice because of a bicycle. It was unplanned for me to coach him at that point. I only visited my friend for an important discussion, but I had to try guiding him so he could ride with other kids while I discussed with my friend. I noticed that his phobia is extreme, and I am beginning to be afraid of him falling down with the bicycle and having injuries. Nevertheless, his birthday is coming in April, and I want to surprise him with a bicycle, by God's grace. My husband already checked the price, which is on the high side. Hopefully we can afford it by then, and then, through consistent practice, his phobia for cycling will be a thing of the past.
Unlike my older son, who has no access to riding bicycles in their school, my second and last son are privileged to learn cycling every Thursday in their school.
I was happy to see them ride bicycles during one of my visits to their school. I think it's a nice development from the school management, teaching the kids how to ride and letting them know the health benefits as well. It's actually new in their school, but only for the lower primary students and the preschoolers.
Right now, the issue of phobia is only with my older son, while his siblings ride with confidence due to the privilege they have in school to practice every week. If I could get one this April during his birthday, hopefully he will practice consistently with it and gain confidence while cycling.
Thanks for your time reading through.
Stay blessed.

I hope that you get him a bike for his birthday. It may take him some time to warm up to it, but he'll get better every now and then as long as he has his own bike.
It would be really nice if all your boys learn to ride bicycles very early. They would one more thing to bond over. My brother and I have a lot of experiences riding bikes together.
By the way, how much is the bike you'd like to get for him?
Indeed Jay...the time we bought their educational tablet, it was a dilemma.. should we buy the bicycle or the tablets..they all Cost much, unfortunately we bought tablets and they broke the screens just within 2 weeks...it was painful spending 70k for nothing
You don't want to see how they disturb every now and then because of bicycle..we are just being calculative.. setting priorities but sure..we will get it
I know it's better to start early and for the bond, it's sure
Last month,my husband checked the cost of the bicycle for the 3 of my boys and it was 210k. You see, it's something we have to be getting one after the other to afford unnecessary financial pressure
Wow. That would have really hurt too see the tablets broken just after two weeks.
70k for a bike is actually way more expensive than I thought. I think my parents bikes for my brother and I for 12k each when we were kids. Getting them one after the other is a great idea, then. They'd only have to share for a while.
Dollar has affected everything
This is our reality
Your son will overcome the phobia when he starts practicing it. I think that was his first trying to ride a bicycle at your friend's place, hence the phobia. Unlike your other sons who have the access in their schools and are riding it every time, they might also have the phobia at first but consistently learning it every Thursday has taken that fear away and instilled confidence in them.
Same will happen when you get the bicycle for your son. Hope your other sons won't feel jealous when you get a bicycle for the older son? Hehehe 😀 he will surely love it when you surprise him with it. Don't worry, God will provide the money, seeing how you wanted to get one for him on his birthday. April is still far 😉 start saving 30 HBD weekly now 😆
Haha 😂😂,30 whopping hbd weekly, haha 😂😂
Noted my princess
Yes, his phobia is quite understandable unlike my younger boys but I believe he will overcome it with consistent practice

You are doing well, it's been very challenging sometimes, when we are unable to grow our children's with their own plans and little cute ideas. I am from poor country, i have seen a lot of children they can't even buy their favourite toys because their parents can't afford.
Sincerely, I wish I can afford it for my three kids at the moment...they love it but unfortunately, we are faced with lots of needs and setting priorities is inevitable

How cute all those kids on those small bicycles. Building confidence is an important subject when you're learning to ride a bicycle. And you will only gain confidence by doing. Keep on stimulating your son and he will learn how to ride a bicycle.

Yea.. confidence matters and can only be developed by practicing cycling especially more often
I hope he gets hang on it
Thanks very much for curation
Don't let his phobia stop you from getting him a bicycle as you already plan to. Intentionally create opportunities for him and his siblings to be with other children who can ride, that will help him gradually overcome his phobia. You are doing a good job already, dear.
Wow..I love this idea
Perhaps we should visit that my friend more
Thanks for this

Thank you for the tips. That would be great, @nkemakonam89. I wish him great speed for overcoming this challenge.
It is great that your younger children are learnign to cycle at school. Pity that was not the case for your older son. I hope you will be able to surprise him with a bicycle for his birthday. Cycling is so much fun.
It's indeed a pity.. cycling is fun..he will be happy if I finally gets him one
