I thought I would be grumpier at this age, I think early retirement helped with that and gardening. I'll reassess when I get my senior discount at McDonalds. The irony as I've gotten older is I've stopped eating at McDonalds, that may be the thing to be grumpy about :)

Give them the Roman candle treatment instead I say. Sorry not sorry but I want them to suffer for days before they croak.
Might do just as well to simply stop protecting them.
