Should you stay positive at all times?

in DCooperation4 years ago (edited)

I thought looking at the bright side of everything was the best way to live. I thought the scripture mentioned, we should give thanks in everything. Oh, the same scripture did say, sorrows sharpens understanding.

Meditation and Overcoming the Cult of PositivityI guess @harlowjourney is right then when he said in his post,

Often people don't realize that by focusing on the positive they might be ignoring real danger signs in their lives. They might not be taking a realistic view. And probably the most unexpected consequence of focusing on the positive is that it can, in some cases, lead to serious depression.

I am lying here trying to make sense of everything he is saying. I am trying hard to decipher if this is the truth or not. Does looking at the bright side of everything lead to depression? How can that be possible? Do you mean too much happiness is bad for us?

I can't still say I agree with him. Well, maybe, I have to read till the end. Somehow, I have a feeling, he will be able to convince me that this is true.

Was he able to convince me? Yes. Right here.

You sit with all the feelings inside. mindfulness is realizing that you have all of these different worlds inside of you. You might have anger, joy, sadness, grief, etc. They all live there, sometimes for a brief moment, and sometimes for years.
Mindfulness is acknowledging their presence and allowing them to exist inside you in peace.

You see we run as far as we can from how we feel about certain things and everything. We do not want to acknowledge we are angry over what the other person said to us.

We don't want to acknowledge we are sad or heartbroken because of what the other person did. We don't want to seem like the odd one or the bad one in the room.

So we wear masks, pretending to be fine, bottling in all our emotions. Emotions that if care is not taken, will explode one day, and the repercussions will be worst than if we had acknowledged the feeling when we first notice it.

We have to learn to love ourselves enough to accept everything we are, including our strengths and weaknesses. It is only when we do that we can find answers to all of our unanswered questions. Those thoughts that question our very existence will be resolved if we accept who we are on a larger scale of things.

@harlowjourney did say we won't be able to run no matter how hard we try, so what's the point of running, anywhere?

If you find it difficult to accept this truth, try meditations, it's the route to finding the peace that you truly desire.

I hope that you will visit his post to gain more insights.

Thank you for your thought provoking words. I hope people don't think I mean too much happiness is bad for us. We could all do with more happiness, I think. However, I think you caught my meaning, which was that when we don't feel good or positive, there is no need to insist to ourselves or the world around us that we do. When we paint an artificial smile on, it hurts us, but it also hurts others because it robs them of the opportunity to genuinely interact with us. Thanks again for really taking the time to consider my words. I am grateful for that honor.

I've been on hive for more than 4 years, and I'm trying to make it a better place. In fact, many are trying. Just like in the real world, avoid those you don't like and be a friend with those you like. I hope you move on and stay. Hive is fun. ☺I don't think that people mean that too much happiness is bad. I was reading your recent post and I would like to say, don't worry about what happened to you in some communities or in others to other writers. In hive, just like in the real world, we have good and bad actors. It can't be perfect, and nothing in life is perfect. I'm glad that @iskafan mentioned you in our contest of . I think I saw that post and opened it, I haven't gotten around to reading through yet. Now that you've reminded me, I'll go check it out

About this, I read through this morning but I am still a bit confused. The different posts we will promoting, can we do that every day? if yes Wouldn't that seem spammy or milking to the rest of the audience?

I think it's ok to do that every day, the more people we promote, the more will be aware of #dcc. We just don't have to promote the same people again and again, that will be spammy. The most important is to always find new people to promote.

It's alright Sir. Thanks for explaining

It's an honor to read into your thoughts and align with them.

And yes, I got the meaning of your message and it was worth reading and meditating upon

Thanks for sharing them

I enjoy reading and thinking about these things, thanks for posting.

I think sometimes stuff can fester in dark places but if you shine the light on it... acknowledge it and allow it to be as it is, it can change. It is part of the practice of equanimity. Some have called it "shadow work" and I feel like the basics of these practices are the same but I'm not sure.

I think Eckhart Tolle said something about depression not being so bad when you acknowledge that you are depressed.

Sometimes I can get a bit mixed up when I try to understand and practice all of these things. I do think it is helpful for me though.

It's such a nice feeling knowing that you appreciate this part of life, and you think it's helpful too.

Yes, most times, we have to acknowledge these feelings as it is not so bad

Its similar to a post by @josediccus about optimism, pessimism and being realistic.

Love your taken on it...
