Welcome back Splinterlands fans! @star-shroud here, from the @shield-of-glory guild with a special end of season BRAWLS OF STEEL report. As always, this is your place for the latest, greatest news on guilds, brawls and, of course, GLADIUS cards! Our special END OF SEASON EDITION also gives you a bonus rundown on the TOP 25 GUILDS by end-of-season rankings.
TOP 25 GUILDS
This season saw relative stability in the top 10, but major shuffling amongst the rest of pack. TEAM POSSIBLE continued its recent dominance with a true blow-out performance, beating perennial champions IMMORTAL GODS by more than 7,000 points. SHIELD OF GLORY finished strong, fending off a late push by KNIGHTS UNITED for the #3 spot. Filling out the TOP 5 was THE GUILD OF NEOXIAN who continues its steady run up the leaderboards, landing itself in the upper echelons of the top Splinterlands guilds.
TIER 2 BRAWLS
This past week's Tier 2 brawls were epic, with some truly dramatic showdowns. Clutch performances from individual players made all the difference in the end.
#3 SHIELD OF GLORY | #6 LEGENDARY DRAGONS
Starting with our guild, #3 ranked SHIELD OF GLORY (SoG) took home second place this week. In the regular foil frays, @firemonster turned in a firemonster! of a performance with an 8-0 sweep of Fray 7 (silver|wild). @vugtis and @heroldius went a solid 7-1 in Fray 11 (gold|wild) and Fray 6 (bronze|alpha/beta), respectively. In the gold foil frays, @ducecrypto went 5-1 in Fray 14 (bronze|modern), and SoG GUILD LEADER @zagorlord went 5-1 in Fray 15 (silver|wild).
Still though, it wasn't enough to catch #6 ranked LEGENDARY DRAGONS who ran away with first place. LEGENDARY DRAGONS brawlers had multiple sweeps including regular foil Fray 5 (bronze|chaos legion) by @jeffandhisguitar (9-0), gold foil Fray 14 (bronze|modern) by @moriarty95 (6-0) and gold foil Fray 15 (silver|wild) by @spirits4you (5-0).
#2 IMMORTAL GODS | #5 GUILD OF NEOXIAN
Turning next to #2 ranked IMMORTAL GODS and #5 ranked THE GUILD OF NEOXIAN, it was another upset for the lower ranked seed. THE GUILD OF NEOXIAN took home first place, with IG coming in 39 points behind to take second.
IMMORTAL GODS had dominating performances from some of its gold foil brawlers. @jaki01 (5-0) and @ula.ocean (5-0) swept Fray 13 (bronze|wild) and Fray 15 (silver|wild), respectively. In the end though, GUILD OF NEOXIAN continued its run of dominating brawl performances, taking first place again for the second week in a row.
#4 KNIGHTS UNITED | #10 SUMMONER'S TRIBE
#10 ranked SUMMONER'S TRIBE continued its dominant brawl performances as well, taking first-place by 51 points over #23 ranked PEAKMONSTERS[VIKINGS] and a whopping 72 points over #4 ranked KNIGHTS UNITED. It was the second week in a row that SUMMONER'S TRIBE beat out higher ranked opponents to take first place.
SUMMONER'S TRIBE was buoyed by a slew of impressive performances. @jacekw (7-0) swept the Fray 6 spot (bronze|alpha/beta), while @imperfect-one (7-0) and @matt-dub (5-0) swept the gold foils Fray 14 (bronze|modern) and Fray 16 (silver|modern), respectively. In a particularly interesting brawl, matt-dubb showed us his gold foil QUORA! 1 of only 60 so far yet in existence. If you haven't had the pleasure to catch the glimmer of a gold foil QUORA in action, check out the battle here. (Disclaimer: Quora doesn't go off on one of her normal rampages in this battle, but still, its a gold foil Quora 😍).
#9 PEAKMONSTERS[PREMIERE] | #16 HB HYBORIAN DREAM
#9 ranked PEAKMONSTERS[PREMIERE] blew away its competition again, taking yet another first-place victory (its second in a row), beating #16 ranked HB HYBORIAN DREAM by 51 points and #13 ranked ROARING TWENTIES by a massive 124 points.
Legendary Water GLADIUS card FLAGULON was featured in a number of brawls by @mm2ss from HB HYBORIAN DREAM. In case you haven't seen this card yet, FLAGULON has magic attack with blast, reminiscent in some ways to RULER OF THE SEAS. In fact, mm2ss paired FLAGULON, RULER OF THE SEAS and VALNAMOR for some very effective and explosive magic attacks which can be watched here and here.
Of course, FLAGULON also has bloodlust, shatter and kock-out, which makes him like RULER OF THE SEAS on steroids.
#11 DEC HUNTERS | #15 SZZ9PZA
Last but certainly not least, unranked PEAKMONSTERS[CHAMPS] pulled a huge upset to take out four TOP 25 teams, including #11 ranked DEC HUNTERS, #15 ranked SZZZ9PZA, #21 ranked LEGENDARY WHEPS and #22 ranked TEAM POSSIBLE POWER.
A gold foil GLADIUS on GLADIUS deathblow match was played between @erlendo from PEAKMONSTERS[CHAMPS] and @hornman from TEAM POSSIBLE POWER in the Fray 16 spot (silver/modern). Both brawlers used YODIN to summon gold foil GLADIUS card. erlendo chose SARIUS, a ranged attacker with bloodlust that matches well with YODIN, whereas hornman chose CHIMNEY WALLSTOP. Both GLADIUS cards got bloodlust kills but in the end, SARIUS dealt CHIMNEY a deathblow at close range to seal the win. The battle can be viewed here.
CHANGES TO CROWN REWARD SYSTEM
Finally, big news was released yesterday that the brawl reward structure for crowns will be changing soon. In fact, the plan is for these changes to be in place by April 30th, in time for the next round of brawls. We'll be parsing through the effects of these changes in future editions of the BRAWLS OF STEEL report, but for now, check out the extra importance that ARENA level will play in maxing out crown rewards. Also note that crowns will be distributed more evenly amongst participating guilds, rather giving the bulk of the rewards to the top 3 finishers. At its core, this was a likely reaction to recent backlash surrounding Tier 3 level brawls. However now, by placing more emphasis on arena level multipliers, and by dividing up the crowns more evenly among all participants, it's possible that a Tier 3 level brawl system may be ripe to test out again.
