I have to say, but most everyone already knows, that Hawaii is one beautiful place to live. I am going to miss all the natural beauty that is all around me whenever I step outside of my house.
I know I take it for granted, but hey.. where I am going.. the visayas region of the philippines, is also one very beautiful area.. the nature there is everywhere! (the weather is just a bit hotter for sure, in phils)
I can't wait to get to philippines where I can get siumai and other Asian food easily and for a fraction of the cost of things here. (that is, IF you can even find it.. like the only suimai you can find here on maui is the frozen stuff from the supermarket)
The biggest financial difference, by far, is the cost of real estate / rent. for a 3 bedroom house.. we pay $3800 per month in rent here in maui.. so let's just round that to $1k per person, and if u were forced to rent a place alone, the going rent is about $1500 for a decent apt.
Whereas, in philippines I got a 2 bedroom place for 1/10 the cost.. or not even $150 a month in rent. I also know you could buy an acre of land there (in the outer islands) for about $1k only PER ACRE! (although, in philippines they use 'hectares' which is roughly 2.2 acres)

That is expensive Rent.
Typical 2 bedroom apartment rental in Vancouver is $2800 to $3300 CAD/month is what I last heard. I am so grateful to have my home mortgage free.
