I have a strong motivation to keep discovering new places to explore. Even the most mundane neighborhoods in the city have something interesting to offer. I had the chance to prove that last Sunday when I spent the morning in Bukit Gombak.
If you Google places to visit in Singapore, you won’t find Bukit Gombak on any of the lists. There are no specific attractions designed for tourists. Everything in Bukit Gombak is meant for the residents to enjoy—from the nature park to the neighborhood shops, all of it is set up to meet their needs.
But that didn’t discourage me from visiting and exploring what the area has to offer.
Although I enjoy visiting places with attractions, parks, and tourist spots, I also love exploring neighborhoods like Bukit Gombak. I guess I got the inspiration from a Japanese TV show I used to enjoy watching—Japan Hour—where they would casually walk around a neighborhood to discover interesting things about the place. That show became my motivation, and now I find myself doing the same kind of walks.
Bukit Gombak is one of the neighborhoods where the MRT stations and tracks are still elevated. Nowadays, most of the newer ones are built underground, which makes this quite interesting to me!
I actually spent about half an hour just taking photos and videos of the trains arriving and leaving the station. It’s pretty cool because this isn’t something we can do with the newer underground trains.
Right next to the station is a sports complex, which is probably one of the best in the city. Although it’s not as large or elaborate as the Kallang Sports Complex, it’s still much better than those in other estates.
The best spot to hang out on a nice day is the park across from the MRT station or the sports complex. It’s not a very big park—it looks more like a pocket garden—but it’s surprisingly comfortable. That’s because there’s a constant, refreshing breeze that cools the area, and plenty of trees provide shade for almost the entire park.
Some people were having picnics, while others simply sat on the boulders, passing the time.
As for me, I was there to take photos!
A great reason for me to revisit this place is the amazing Sunday market! It has a wonderful variety of Malay-style delicacies. I’d love to shop for the ones that catch my interest, and I even took a video of the ones I discovered that day.
Bukit Gombak may not be a typical tourist destination, but it has its own charm, from its elevated MRT tracks to its cozy parks and vibrant Sunday market. Exploring hidden gems like this reminds me that every neighborhood has something unique to offer. I’ll definitely be back to uncover more little surprises this place has in store!
The pictures says it all 🙌. Are you a professional photographer? 😊 Your shots are so amazing, it makes your content more beautiful and easy to understand, hehe. Also, that's the typical place that I like , to be surrounded by nature with bit touch of city vibe 😀. If I were to live there , I would stroll and jog everyday to feel the fresh breeze and clean environment 🤩. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks a lot for noticing the photos :) Been practicing much lately. And that's also the reason why I travel around the city exploring places like this, it inspires me to take different angles of photos and also to relax too. :)
Great post!! The rocks on the first picture remind me of one scene from the series “From” :). There’s always something we haven’t paid attention to that waits to be seen :)
FROM is a horror tv series, is it? I haven't seen this one but it looks interesting :)
Yes! Although I wouldn’t really say it’s traditional horror scary, it’s more gore😬..
But just close your eyes then, apart from that the plot, the story.. IT’S FANTASTIC!!! It came from the people that made “Lost” :)
This place is really nice. Transformed from an abandoned quarry. Nickname after a famous attraction in China Guangxi
I may need to revisit this place because I didn't find a good spot to see the old quarry 😅
I really like your photography 🤩

Thanks a lot my friend!
You do such a nice job of showing us around Singapore and showing us the places that a visiting tourist would never see. I love that!
It's my pleasure and I just really enjoy going for a walk at random places that I have little knowledge about :)
It looks so refreshing, clean, and green. I would love walking in that kind of place, anti-stress. Thanks for sharing those pics. 🌸
You're right about that. No need to be a fancy place. A simple walk with nature is a perfect anti stress that one can do for free 😁
Hardly mundane ... you did a wonderful job capturing the extraordinary in the ordinary!
Thanks! I think exploring mundane places can be that rewarding sometimes especially if it turned out to be more than what you expected. :)
That is the great secret of the mundane ... upon examination, often the mundane hides the extraordinary shown only to those who pay attention!
Very true 😁
Fully agree with this statement: "Even the most mundane neighborhoods in the city have something interesting to offer." Your pictures prove it beyond doubts :)
I'm really glad that you noticed the photos 😁, been practicing my angles recently.
Nice pictures

Thanks man! I appreciate the comment.
Nice shots! The environment was so serene. The lush greenery creates an inviting atmosphere. A good place to unwind.
Thanks! Indeed, it's a good spot to take a breather from the city's hassle :D
That's nice to hear, the perfect to rejuvenate from a relentless pace. Enjoy and Have a nice day!😊
And the same goes to you. Have a great day ahead!
I'm looking at all the pictures and I have to say, Bukit Gombak looks like a very peaceful and charming place to go to. The elevated MRT tracks and Sunday market is what I'll go for if I get the chance to travel there. For real, sometimes, the best experiences come from visiting everyday neighborhoods like this
You're correct about your thoughts. There is a kind of calmness in this neighborhood that I like. Compared to estates close to the center of the city, this one does have that urgency or hassle 😁
I love the vibe it has man... Great place
Cheers 🤣🔥💪

You have such an amazing photography eye! The manner in which you catch details, light, and emotions in your photographs is just amazing. Every photograph tells a unique story, and I adore the way you bring out the best in every scenario. Keep doing the great work!
Thanks so much for the nice comment. I'll explore more about my city and my photography as well.
Have a great day ahead!
That's such a nice place, very relaxing.
You're right about that. It was indeed relaxing :)
The place was so beautiful and the food looks yummy,a good place to visit specially when the mind and body needs fresh air and need to think.
Exactly! I felt rejuvenated by spending a morning on that spot. :)
