FOODlog #1236: Penang Asam Prawns & Patin Fish Assam Pedas

in Daily Blog8 months ago

For our staff Meal yesterday we had some Malaysian 🇲🇾 favorites! A seafood meal pairing of a popular and delicious prawn dish from north of Malaysia and a spicy and sour fish stew.

Assam Pedas Ikan Patin is a sour and spicy fish stew that has loads of aromatics like shallots, garlic, ginger, Galangal, lime, chilies, and Daun kesum, an aromatic herb. We also had a scramble egg with cabbage dish cooked by chef Mel, and the Penang Asam Prawns cooked by me.

Asam prawns is a dish that my Mum makes. A dish from her hometown Penang that is so delicious especially eaten with rice. Special thanks to her for teaching me how to make it and giving me her recipe.

Its a prawn dish that starts with a marinade of soy sauce, dark soy sauce, sweet soy sauce, some sugar, and the main flavor ingredient, tamarind juice.

Its so flavorful and really delicious especially eaten with rice, which is what we had for our carbs of the night.
